Very Chilly Temps on the Way for Mid Michigan

Very Chilly Temps on the Way for Mid Michigan

Today is beginning with cloudy skies and cooler temps.  It looks like our warm weather is finished  for now, and another polar vortex is on the way.  There is also more snow in our forecast with a good chance of a white Christmas after all.  The only snow that is left now is where the snow banks were, and a few spotty areas that were in the shade.  Other than that, our last snow is history.  The days following Christmas…

A Few Warmer Days Before the Next Polar Votex – Mid Michigan

A Few Warmer Days Before the Next Polar Votex – Mid Michigan

This morning is sunny and mild.  We received no precip yesterday and the thaw continued , so most of our snow is gone.  All we have left is where the snow banks were.  We do, however, have a chance for more snow before Christmas and our local meteorologist said that computer models are showing that it could be substantial.  He also cautioned that it is still much to early to make a definite prediction.  On the positive side, all of…

Most of Our Snow Is Gone – Mid Michigan

Most of Our Snow Is Gone – Mid Michigan

Wouldn’t you know that after receiving 8 inches of snow, most would melt right before Christmas.  That’s our luck.  These very warm temps are expected to last up to the weekend, then there really isn’t much snow mentioned in our forecast for Christmas.  Maybe Mother Nature will surprise us  with a freak snowstorm. Temperatures were warmer than what was predicted.  My thermometer read 40° for a very short time, and temps didn’t fall much through the overnight.  We were supposed…

Our Pre-January Thaw is Here – Mid Michigan

Our Pre-January Thaw is Here – Mid Michigan

Yesterday, I said that a white Christmas was a certainty for us but now I’m not so sure.  Temperatures were on the rise all night and we lost about 3 inches of snow.  I haven’t been able to get my car out of the driveway since the snowstorm, so this may be the turning point.  Above normal temperatures are expected to continue this entire week so we could lose most of our snow.  Rain is in the forecast instead of…

A Significant Warmup Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

A Significant Warmup Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

We should start seeing our temperatures moderate a bit this week.  We may see highs in the upper 30s to low 40s by mid week.  Although it won’t be warm enough to melt much of our snow, at least it should clear bare surfaces as well as the roads.  A white Christmas is a certainty and that makes me happy.  We have 8 inches of snow cover this morning, and the extended forecast is not calling for more snow anytime…

Three More Inches of Snow – Mid Michigan

Three More Inches of Snow – Mid Michigan

I have to say that the weather service really blew it yesterday.  Our forecast called for light snow with accumulations of less than an inch.  We got three.  I measured 8.75 inches on the ground this morning.  Today could see more minor accumulations and there is even a chance for freezing drizzle.  There is a significant warm up coming by mid week with temps near 40°F expected.  That won’t be warm enough to melt much snow, but at least it…

A Little Warmer and More Snow For Mid Michigan

A Little Warmer and More Snow For Mid Michigan

It feels mild this morning compared to yesterday.  Temps have been on the rise all night.   Snow is falling at this time although we aren’t expecting much accumulation today.  It’s just enough to make the roads slippery.  This weather is more like January and I can’t help but wonder if the pattern will continue like we’ve had through the summer.  If so, we’ll get our December weather in January.  It’s crazy out there! Our 9:30 AM EST temperature is…

First Snowstorm of the Season – Mid Michigan

First Snowstorm of the Season – Mid Michigan

Yesterday brought moderate to heavy snow all day to Mid Michigan.  We received 6.8 inches here of new snow leaving us with 8-9 inches of snow cover.  There were many serious accidents closing I-69 from Durand east for a few hours.  People were complaining that the roads were a glare of ice making driving very difficult.  I was lucky that I didn’t have to go out.  Needless to say, most schools are closed, and those that were open yesterday sent…

Winter Storm Warning For Most of Michigan

Winter Storm Warning For Most of Michigan

The snow began falling shortly before 8 AM this morning and has continued since.  A winter storm warning is in effect until midnight with 5-8 inches expected.  All of the snow enthusiasts are ecstatic.   As for me, I love a good snow storm.  It breaks up the monotony of winter and gives us a chance to get out and exercise a little.  I’m not seeing any breaks in these cold temperatures anytime soon.  A few days ago, Saturday was supposed…

Our First Significant Snowfall of the Season – Mid Michigan

Our First Significant Snowfall of the Season – Mid Michigan

Although my area only received about 1.5 – 2 inches of new snow, counties to our south received as much as 6 inches.  Snow continues to be in the forecast but no significant accumulations are expected.  It will be just enough to keep the roads slippery.  For some reason, I didn’t see any salt trucks out yesterday, maybe because it was the weekend, so hopefully the roads will be better today. Our 9:30 AM EST temperature is 17.2°F (-8°C), the…
