Much Warmer Temps are on The Way for Mid Michigan

Much Warmer Temps are on The Way for Mid Michigan

The big story yesterday was the meteor on Tuesday evening.  It caused a very large “boom” which registered as 2 on the Richter scale.  Many claimed that it shook their houses.  I saw the flash through my window but heard no noise.  Several of my friends were outdoors when it happened and were truly amazed by what they saw.   The noise apparently was caused when it exploded and particles from it have supposedly landed in areas about 20-25 miles to…

Another Day of Snow – Mid Michigan

Another Day of Snow – Mid Michigan

It seems that Mother Nature turned on the snow machine and forgot to turn it off.  It has snowed now for the past 5 days . . . . . not huge amounts, just enough to keep the roads slippery.   We received another 1.5 inches yesterday and we now have 5 inches of ground cover.  There is another system heading our way for the weekend but temps are expected to be warm enough that much of the precip should be…

A Little Warmer Today – Mid Michigan

A Little Warmer Today – Mid Michigan

We woke to a world of hoar frost this Sunday morning, and beautiful it is!    Along with the beauty are very cold temperatures.  At least we are expecting warmer temps for this upcoming week.  Yesterday brought cloudy skies and intermittent snow showers most of the day.  There was very little accumulation however.  We have about 4.5 inches of snow cover and it should last most of this week.  Warmer weather is heading our way with projected highs in the 40s…

Another Four Inches of Snow Cover for Mid Michigan

Another Four Inches of Snow Cover for Mid Michigan

It doesn’t seem like we even lost our snow from previously but I guess it’s a good thing that we did.   We received four inches yesterday, exactly what we lost in the thaw.  We also have the frigid temperatures that we had over the holidays.  That we could do without.  Hopefully, this won’t last as long as the previous cold spell.  Regardless, what will be will be and there is no use in complaining.  Freezing rain preceded the snow making…

More Snow For Mid Michigan

More Snow For Mid Michigan

Rain, freezing rain mixed with snow this morning.  At least that’s what was predicted but that’s not what is happening.  Most of the precip that we have is snow . . . . two inches so far and still snowing at a pretty good clip.  Liquid measure is 0.50″ as of 8:30 AM.  Originally we were only supposed to get a dusting or up to one inch, but it looks like Mother Nature has other ideas.  At least we aren’t…

Near Record High Temps in Mid Michigan Today

Near Record High Temps in Mid Michigan Today

Wednesday was not a pretty day with fog and drizzle.  All of our snow is gone except for where the snow banks are.  Our Temperatures were on the rise all night and there was 0.05″ in my rain gauge this morning.  Unfortunately, this isn’t going to last.  In fact, our high for the day is probably what we have right now.  Another blast of cold air is heading our way and we’ll be back in the deep freeze for the…

Much Warmer Temperatures But It Will Be Short Lived – Mid Michigan

Much Warmer Temperatures But It Will Be Short Lived – Mid Michigan

We better enjoy these next few day because there is another blast of cold air heading our way.  Temperatures will be warm enough today and tomorrow that I expect that we’ll lose almost all of our snow.  We have about 4 inches of snow cover as of this morning, but that will change drastically by tomorrow night.  This must be our January thaw. Right now (9:15 AM EST), our temperature is 33.1°F (1°C), the humidity is 83%, and skies are…

More Snow, But Much Warmer Temperatures – Mid Michigan

More Snow, But Much Warmer Temperatures – Mid Michigan

We received a little over two inches of wet, heavy snow overnight giving us a total of 6 inches of ground cover at this time.  Our present temperature is slightly above the freezing mark and it feels very balmy.  The dogs even stayed out a little longer this morning.  We have a snow/rain mix in the forecast over the next week, but temperatures will be very warm for this time of year so any accumulations will be short lived. Our…

Today Begins A Warmup In Mid Michigan

Today Begins A Warmup In Mid Michigan

Finally, the frigid air is being replaced by more seasonable temperatures.  This coming week could see highs in the 40s and that will seem very balmy compared to what we’ve been having.  This morning is cloudy but the winds are picking up, and even though highs will be warmer, the wind chill will still make it uncomfortable.  I’m just thankful that temps will be warmer than the teens. Our 9:45 AM temperature is 13.6°F (-10°C), the humidity is 61%, and…

Finally, Warmer Weather Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

Finally, Warmer Weather Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

It finally looks like we may be getting a much needed warmup.  Temps next week are expected to be in the 30s and could even reach into the 40s.  That will feel absolutely balmy after what we have had.  Today, however, will remain in the deep freeze . . . . . one last day.  This morning is sunny.  There was no precipitation yesterday and our snow cover remains at around 3.5 – 4 inches.  That should be gone next…
