A Sunny, Frigid Groundhog Day in Mid Michigan

It’s no surprise that the groundhog saw his shadow today, but regardless, it’s a beautiful morning. I just wish it was warmer.  We are under the influence of another Polar Vortex and they are getting tiresome to be sure.  Our snow cover has been reduced to about two inches where snow remains, but about one third of the ground is bare.  There is another system heading our way for the weekend which could dump up to 3-4 inches of new snow on us.  The local weather gurus haven’t been very accurate with their snow predictions lately so I guess that remains to be seen.  Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning so I guess we’ll have six more weeks of winter.  Is that a surprise?  Not really.  If I remember correctly, the last time Phil didn’t see his shadow, we still had six more weeks of winter.  I think he received death threats that year.

Our 10 AM temperature is 16°F (-9°C), the humidity is 58% and skies are clear.  Winds are from the west at 10 mph giving us a wind chill of 0°F, and the dew point is 5°F (-15°C).  The pressure is 30.37 in (1028.1 mb) and steady.  Visibility is 10 miles.  Yesterday’s high was 31°F (-1°C) and the overnight low was 7°F (-14°C).  Averages for this date are 28°F / 14°C.
