Active Air Quality Alert Still In Effect – Mid Michigan

Active Air Quality Alert Still In Effect – Mid Michigan

Our air is still filled with smoke from the Canadian wildfires, mostly in the sky.  This morning was very hazy as a result but it doesn’t seem as bad now.  Once the rain comes this weekend, things should be better, or at least that’s what they’re telling us.  It sounds like we could get a good dousing, maybe even up to an inch of rain.  That would be wonderful.  Our sunrises and sunsets have been orange lately.  At least…

Still A Bit Smokey In Mid Michigan

Still A Bit Smokey In Mid Michigan

Although we still can see a lot of smoke overhead, at least it isn’t here at ground level like it was late yesterday.  The rain that is expected this weekend is supposed to clear our air and get rid of a lot of the smoke.  I sure hope so.  Our temperatures will remain right at the average point today and skies should be clear.  An air quality alert is still in effect until noon on Friday. Our 12:45 PM…

Sunny But Cool In Mid Michigan

Sunny But Cool In Mid Michigan

Air Quality Map PM2.5 92 Moderate:  If you are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, consider reducing your activity level or shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors. Our skies don’t seem to be as smoke-filled as the few previous days, and temperatures are a little below where they should be.  We keep hearing that we should get some rain this weekend, and I’m sure hoping that it’s true. Today is the 15th day with no rain and lawns are…

Clouds And Smoke Fill Our Skies – Mid Michigan

Clouds And Smoke Fill Our Skies – Mid Michigan

I’m not sure if our overcast is caused by clouds or smoke from the Canadian wildfires.  It probably is both.  Regardless, we aren’t seeing any sun so far and our temperature is in no hurry to reach the expected high today.  This is our 14th day with no rain an it sounds like we could get some on Sunday.  I just hope it’s enough to do some good. Our 3:15 PM temperature is 69°F (21°C), the humidity is 48%, and…

Cooler But Dry Weather For Mid Michigan

Cooler But Dry Weather For Mid Michigan

Today is much more comfortable so I’ll try to get my flowers in the ground.  Our sky still has a lot of smoke from the wildfires to our north which makes it appear cloudier than it actually is.  The sun is managing to shine through however.  Winds are very light so it’s perfect for being outdoors. Highs will only reach the low 80s and that’s perfect for me. Our 1PM temperature is 78°F (26°C), the humidity is 30%, and winds…

Extreme Dry Weather Results In Michigan Wildfire

Extreme Dry Weather Results In Michigan Wildfire

Wildfires are inevitable when we have no rain for an extended period.  That’s what happened yesterday in Grayling.  Fire burned 2400 acres and the last I heard, it was 85% contained.  I-75 was closed for most of yesterday but it is open now.  All evacuations have also been cancelled.  The fire is located just to the SE of the town of Grayling in northern lower Michigan.  No cause of the fire has been determined. As for us, today is giving…

Day 12 Of No Rain – Mid Michigan

Day 12 Of No Rain – Mid Michigan

No rain for almost two weeks is bad enough, but when you add in high temperatures near  90°F, that makes it worse.  There isn’t even the promise of rain for us anytime soon.  I had to go out and water my perennial plants that are staring to wilt.  I still don’t have my annuals planted and I’m waiting for next week when it should be much cooler.  Hopefully, we’ll get some rain soon. Our 3:45 PM temperature is 89°F (32°C),…
