Mid Michigan Weather

Yesterday’s heat broke many records and ushered in severe weather in our upper peninsula.  It wasn’t anything though compared to what Wisconsin had.  Tornadoes and severe thunderstorms moved across Wisconsin most of the afternoon, but lost much of it’s strength when crossing Lake Michigan.  The western portions of the state saw strong storms which did cause some damage and power outages.  Here in mid Michigan, we just had some light rain and a little thunder and lightning.  There was only…

Record heat is affecting us today with highs expected in the mid 90s.  Thunderstorms are beginning to develop over western Wisconsin and are expected to move into northern Michigan later.  Tornadoes are also a possibility.  Our weather here is expected to remain calm but like an oven.  A local meteorologist was warning anyone doing any camping up north to keep their eyes to the sky today.  I’m just happy that we aren’t there.  I hate severe weather while staying in…

We have to admit that those storms last night looked pretty impressive crossing Lake Michigan, but they decided to swing to the south after landing on our western shore.  The southwest and southern-most counties got the worst of it, but I don’t think there was much actual severe weather.  As far as rain goes, we only got 0.14″ here where I live, but we did get a great lightning show from it.  I also noticed that the storms were diminishing…

If you look out right now, storms would seem like the most unlikely thing to happen.  The humidity is low and there are no clouds to be seen.  But I’ve already received several weather statements that we could get some heavy thunderstorms, some even severe, late this afternoon and overnight.  Temps today should reach the low 80s with 90s expected for the rest of the week.  Usually we get severe weather with an approaching cold front, but not this time. …

We had a heavy, brief shower yesterday afternoon, which dropped almost half an inch in about 20 minutes.  Today there are more showing up on radar but I don’t think they’ll reach us.  The grass is growing about an inch a day with all this rain, and whenever they predict a dry period for us, it rains anyway.  With gas prices what they are, it’s costing a small fortune just keeping up with the lawn.  We are expecting a hot…

After an afternoon of sprinkles, we finally got a good rainfall overnight.  There was 0.42″ in my gauge this morning, and many areas of the state received more than an inch.  The eastern lower part of the state was under a flood warning but haven’t heard of the extent of any flooding.  Radar is showing some light rain moving across the mid sections of the state, but most of it has moved well off to our east.  The sun has…
