I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

More Storms Brewing For Our Afternoon – Mid Michigan

We had to go to Detroit yesterday and the weather situation was quite remarkable.  When we left at 9 AM, the sun was out with scattered clouds.  Then the sky became overcast and dark clouds began appearing to our south.  We soon had sprinkles with no real heavy rain.  On our return home, we ran into one deluge after another.  It was like going through a car wash and visibility was near zero at times.  These rain squalls didn’t last…

Another Hot Day In Mid Michigan

Another Hot Day In Mid Michigan

Today is another scorcher with my weather station reading over 90F.  I’m not sure how accurate it is because it is in the sun and that usually causes it to read about 3-4 degrees higher that what it really is.  Regardless, it is very hot.  Our forecast is calling for some popup storms tomorrow and I hope that we get some of them.  Usually they miss us.  A few of my perennial flowers didn’t come back so I have to…

Hot, Humid and Mostly Clear In Mid Michigan

Hot, Humid and Mostly Clear In Mid Michigan

Our weekend has turned out as promised.  Very hot and uncomfortable for those of us who are heat sensitive.  The saving factor of the day is the wind.  Some places could reach 90°F although the forecasted high is 87°F.  We had to make a trip to Pontiac this morning and were very happy to have AC in our truck.  This entire upcoming week is expected to be hot and dry although there is the chance for some pop-up afternoon thunder…

Perfect Weather In Indian River, MI

Perfect Weather In Indian River, MI

Our weather here in Indian River today is wonderful. Skies have been clear most of the day, and temperatures have been mild depending where you are. We took a drive to Cheboygan and temperatures there were only in the 60s. Here at the camp ground, it is currently in the upper 70s. Winds off Lake Huron make a big difference.  Hot weather is in the forecast for this weekend and beyond.  That will be quite a change from what we…

First Day Of Meteorological Summer In Michigan

First Day Of Meteorological Summer In Michigan

Our morning here in Indian River is much warmer than what we have had lately.  We will be here until Thursday and each day is expected to be a little warmer.  We have sun and very little rain in our forecast for this week.  The campground has been quiet since the weekend and I like it this way. Our 10:45 AM temperature is 46F (8C), the humidity is 56%, and the pressure is 30.18 in (1022.0 mb).  Skies are clear. …

A Cloudy Memorial Day In Indian River, MI

A Cloudy Memorial Day In Indian River, MI

We arrived here on Thursday and the temperatures have been very cold for this time of year.  Today is actually the first that we can go outdoors comfortably without a jacket.  At least the past few days have been sunny, so today we traded the sun for clouds but warmer temperatures.  There was a chance for a little rain overnight and this morning but it didn’t happen.  Most of the campers left today and I sure don’t envy them the…

A Rainy Morning Becomes A Sunny Afternoon – Mid Michigan

A Rainy Morning Becomes A Sunny Afternoon – Mid Michigan

Our morning was very wet and we received some much needed rain overnight.  Our total was 0.41″ in addition to what we received yesterday.  I’m sure that the farmers are very happy.  The rain ended by late morning and the skies have cleared up nicely since then.  We are expecting some very chilly weather over the weekend but the temperatures should rebound by Memorial Day.  We are heading for the campground tomorrow and I doubt that I’ll be posting a…

Our Last Hot Day For A While – Mid Michigan

Our Last Hot Day For A While – Mid Michigan

Today will be the warmest day that we will have for a while.  Highs should reach the mid to upper 80s with rain in the forecast for tonight.  That should cool us off for the next several days.  But we’re expecting a drastic cool down for the weekend with highs only in the 50s and 60s.  We received quarter of an inch of rain yesterday and I’m hoping for more tonight.  We are heading for the campground on Thursday and…

Much Needed Rain For Mid Michigan

Much Needed Rain For Mid Michigan

We finally received rain yesterday afternoon, and it continues into this morning.  It wasn’t nearly as much as we hoped for but any is better than nothing.  I’m seeing that rain is in our forecast for the next several days and that’s a good thing.  Yesterday was very warm early, then the temperatures dropped 10 degrees in about half an hour.  We only received 0.15″ but we just had another shower which gave us an additional 0.09″ and it is…

More Comfortable Weather For Mid Michigan

More Comfortable Weather For Mid Michigan

Our temperatures aren’t quite as warm today and there is a pretty strong breeze, so it hasn’t felt as hot as the past two days.  This morning was cloudy and we received about  0.03″ of rain overnight.  It wasn’t enough to really matter and I’m hoping that we get more tomorrow.  Current radar isn’t showing any precipitation in southern lower Michigan at this time. Our 3:15 PM temperature is 85°F (29°C), the humidity is 50% and winds are from the…
