The rain that we got yesterday seemed rather insignificant but it did measure as 0.06″ in my gauge. The low pressure that has passed over us is moving ever so slowly to our southeast, and it continues to bring periods of light rain to the area. Altogether we only got a little over a quarter inch total, the grass has greened up so it did do some good. I just hope that we don’t have to wait another three weeks…
Although we have only received a quarter of an inch of rain so far, it has revived the lawn a bit. Yesterday only brought sprinkles but radar is showing more rain coming from the east. The rain began around 9 PM last night and intermittent showers continued throughout the night. There was 0.20″ in my gauge at 7:30 and it has continued since then. Our local forecast is giving us the greatest chance of rain that we have had in about three weeks. This is supposed to happen on Friday through Sunday. Severe storm warnings were widespread yesterday afternoon as the cold front moved across lower Michigan. There were impressive photos of a large shelf cloud that passed over the Pontiac area as storms became severe after forming over us. I watched this grow from a little blip on the radar to a massive red cell which covered a large area from the thump down to the Detroit area. Although severe storms hit areas to our north, we didn’t get one drop of rain. The Houghton Lake area received up to 3/4 inch of rain, but unfortunately, it also brought destructive winds. We are looking at the possibility of rain this weekend but it’s only a chance. We really do need rain with all of this heat that we’ve been having. There isn’t any relief coming until at least next Wednesday. The AC has really been getting a workout this year. Our last rainfall was on June 28 when we received a little over half an inch of rain. Since then, not a drop. These extreme hot temperatures really exacerbate the dry conditions.
