I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Comfortable, Wonderful Weather for our Saturday in Mid Michigan

Comfortable, Wonderful Weather for our Saturday in Mid Michigan

We couldn’t have asked for a lovelier Saturday.  The sun is bright, temps are in the mid 70s and there is a light breeze.  Perfect in my book.   What’s even better is that there is just a slight chance for rain later in the week and temps should remain at comfortable levels. Right now (11:30 AM EDT), our temp is 74.7°F (24°C) , the humidity is 57%, and winds are from the west at 6 mph.  Our heat index is…

Cloudy and Cooler in Mid Michigan

Cloudy and Cooler in Mid Michigan

After plenty of rain over the past two days, today should be a bit cooler and more comfortable.  Although we didn’t get any severe weather, there was flooding in some areas of the state, and we certainly don’t need anymore rain for awhile.  This has been a very wet year for us although the farmers are loving it.  Our temps should remain in the 70s today, so we can open the windows for a change.  That will seem good Our…

Stormy Weather Expected in Mid Michigan

Stormy Weather Expected in Mid Michigan

Last night brought thunderstorms, but they didn’t do much to cool us off.   The threat of severe weather looms over us today, so we’ll have to keep our eye to the sky this afternoon.   Hopefully, there won’t be much damage done.  Yesterday was very hot and muggy . . . . the type of day that you didn’t want to be outdoors too long.  I sat out for awhile with the dogs, but they didn’t want to stay out for…

A Very Wet Overnight in Mid Michigan

A Very Wet Overnight in Mid Michigan

For a change, my area got some much needed rain.  There was just under an inch in my gauge this morning and rain remains in the forecast for this afternoon.   Some areas had severe weather but we were lucky and just got the rain with a bit of noise.   Radar at this time is showing most of the storms to have moved off to our southwest and they are now centered over eastern Ohio and moving into Pennsylvania.  All of…

A Slight Warmup For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

A Slight Warmup For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was gorgeous and today should be just as nice.  I tried to go without the AC but broke down and turned it on late in the afternoon.  Today we should see highs in the mid 80s.  It’s hard to believe that it’s heading into mid summer already.  Time goes by too fast.  Radar is showing a little rain in the Detroit area and we could really use some here, but not in the forecast for a few days yet….

A Beautiful Independence Day in Mid Michigan

A Beautiful Independence Day in Mid Michigan

We couldn’t have lovelier weather for our July 4th holiday.  Temps will be very comfortable and clear skies all day.  It will be a quiet one for us since my kids aren’t able to be here this year.  That’s the problem when it falls in mid week.  But with a little luck, we’ll see fireworks which local people will be shooting off, as well as all the noise well into the night.  I love the 4th of July.  It’s my…

Once Again, All Rain Missed Us – Corunna, Michigan

Once Again, All Rain Missed Us – Corunna, Michigan

Many storms passed us by yesterday, but our temperatures were comfortable and there was a nice breeze.  We didn’t need the AC which is always nice.  I really prefer to have my windows open and listen to the sounds of the outdoors.  Our morning is cloudy but we should see the sun later.   Temperatures should be comfortable both today and tomorrow. Our 8:45 AM temp is 65.2°F (17°C), the humidity is 66% and skies are cloudy.  Winds are from the…

Many Passing Storms But No Rain – Mid Michigan

Many Passing Storms But No Rain – Mid Michigan

There were numerous thunderstorms in Michigan yesterday, but they all managed to miss my area.  Pictured is one of the storms which passed to our west.  At the same time, another was passing to our east but we didn’t get a drop of rain.  We were like the meat in a sandwich.  Then later in the afternoon, the sun came out and skies cleared.  It was a beautiful evening.  As it grew dark, the fireworks began.  We could hear booming…

Friday Storms Missed Us, But Clouds Remain – Mid Michigan

Friday Storms Missed Us, But Clouds Remain – Mid Michigan

The only rain that we received on Friday were a few, widespread drops that were barely noticeable.  The southern counties and the thumb area of the state had some pretty strong thunderstorms but I haven’t heard of any damage reports.  There is certainly an increase in the humidity levels, and for that reason, we have the AC on.  I don’t think that we will be seeing much sun today and probably not much, if any, rain either. Our 9:30 AM…

More Rain, Strong Winds, and Very Warm Temps for Mid Michigan

More Rain, Strong Winds, and Very Warm Temps for Mid Michigan

This has been a strange summer for us.  There is too much rain, very few hot days, and too much wind.  I thought that by now the weather pattern would change, but it doesn’t seem to be.   There was heavy rain once again for the northern areas of the state with almost 3 inches reported near the bridge.  I’m glad we are home.  We received 0.04″ here overnight, just enough to get things a little wet.  It’s hard to believe…
