More Snow For Mid Michigan

More Snow For Mid Michigan

Rain, freezing rain mixed with snow this morning.  At least that’s what was predicted but that’s not what is happening.  Most of the precip that we have is snow . . . . two inches so far and still snowing at a pretty good clip.  Liquid measure is 0.50″ as of 8:30 AM.  Originally we were only supposed to get a dusting or up to one inch, but it looks like Mother Nature has other ideas.  At least we aren’t…

Near Record High Temps in Mid Michigan Today

Near Record High Temps in Mid Michigan Today

Wednesday was not a pretty day with fog and drizzle.  All of our snow is gone except for where the snow banks are.  Our Temperatures were on the rise all night and there was 0.05″ in my rain gauge this morning.  Unfortunately, this isn’t going to last.  In fact, our high for the day is probably what we have right now.  Another blast of cold air is heading our way and we’ll be back in the deep freeze for the…

Much Warmer Temperatures But It Will Be Short Lived – Mid Michigan

Much Warmer Temperatures But It Will Be Short Lived – Mid Michigan

We better enjoy these next few day because there is another blast of cold air heading our way.  Temperatures will be warm enough today and tomorrow that I expect that we’ll lose almost all of our snow.  We have about 4 inches of snow cover as of this morning, but that will change drastically by tomorrow night.  This must be our January thaw. Right now (9:15 AM EST), our temperature is 33.1°F (1°C), the humidity is 83%, and skies are…

More Snow, But Much Warmer Temperatures – Mid Michigan

More Snow, But Much Warmer Temperatures – Mid Michigan

We received a little over two inches of wet, heavy snow overnight giving us a total of 6 inches of ground cover at this time.  Our present temperature is slightly above the freezing mark and it feels very balmy.  The dogs even stayed out a little longer this morning.  We have a snow/rain mix in the forecast over the next week, but temperatures will be very warm for this time of year so any accumulations will be short lived. Our…

Today Begins A Warmup In Mid Michigan

Today Begins A Warmup In Mid Michigan

Finally, the frigid air is being replaced by more seasonable temperatures.  This coming week could see highs in the 40s and that will seem very balmy compared to what we’ve been having.  This morning is cloudy but the winds are picking up, and even though highs will be warmer, the wind chill will still make it uncomfortable.  I’m just thankful that temps will be warmer than the teens. Our 9:45 AM temperature is 13.6°F (-10°C), the humidity is 61%, and…

Finally, Warmer Weather Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

Finally, Warmer Weather Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

It finally looks like we may be getting a much needed warmup.  Temps next week are expected to be in the 30s and could even reach into the 40s.  That will feel absolutely balmy after what we have had.  Today, however, will remain in the deep freeze . . . . . one last day.  This morning is sunny.  There was no precipitation yesterday and our snow cover remains at around 3.5 – 4 inches.  That should be gone next…

We’re So Tired Of This Frigid Weather – Mid Michigan

We’re So Tired Of This Frigid Weather – Mid Michigan

We had snow showers most of our Wednesday giving us another half inch of the white stuff.  We have about 4 inches of ground cover at this time and it won’t be melting anytime soon.  I really don’t mind the snow as much as these extreme cold temperatures.  For all the snowbirds who went south for the winter, they have had a rude awakening this year.  There just doesn’t seem to be any escape from winter in much of the…

Frigid Temperatures Continue in Mid Michigan

Frigid Temperatures Continue in Mid Michigan

The deep freeze continues, not only in Michigan, but most of the eastern U.S.  There is even snow in the forecast for northern Florida.  So Mother Nature has certainly made life miserable for many of us.  Someone posted on Facebook yesterday that some scientists are predicting that we are heading for a mini ice age.  Considering the source, however, that is dubious.  Regardless, it feels like we are experiencing an ice age right now.  Hopefully, there will be a break…

Happy New Year From Mid Michigan

Happy New Year From Mid Michigan

Our 2018 is beginning with calm but very chilly temperatures.  Unfortunately, there is no reprieve anytime soon from the frigid weather that has affected us for the past couple of weeks.  At least there are no major storms knocking on our door, and our snow cover remains at about 4 inches.  Wind speeds haven’t been too bad so that’s a good thing.  Hopefully, we’ll get some milder weather next week. Our 9:30 AM EST temperature is 7.2°F (-14°C),  the humidity…

A Quiet, Calm New Year’s Eve For Mid Michigan

A Quiet, Calm New Year’s Eve For Mid Michigan

Our New Year’s Eve day will be calm but very frigid.  The high is expected to only reach the single digits.  I hope that everyone stays safe through the weekend as there will be a lot of drinking going on, and they all won’t have designated drivers.  Yesterday brought some excitement to the Traverse City area.  A cold air funnel was spotted over the bay and most had no idea what it was.  They couldn’t believe that there would be…
