Sunny But Cool In Mid Michigan

Sunny But Cool In Mid Michigan

Air Quality Map PM2.5 92 Moderate:  If you are unusually sensitive to particle pollution, consider reducing your activity level or shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors. Our skies don’t seem to be as smoke-filled as the few previous days, and temperatures are a little below where they should be.  We keep hearing that we should get some rain this weekend, and I’m sure hoping that it’s true. Today is the 15th day with no rain and lawns are…

Clouds And Smoke Fill Our Skies – Mid Michigan

Clouds And Smoke Fill Our Skies – Mid Michigan

I’m not sure if our overcast is caused by clouds or smoke from the Canadian wildfires.  It probably is both.  Regardless, we aren’t seeing any sun so far and our temperature is in no hurry to reach the expected high today.  This is our 14th day with no rain an it sounds like we could get some on Sunday.  I just hope it’s enough to do some good. Our 3:15 PM temperature is 69°F (21°C), the humidity is 48%, and…

Cooler But Dry Weather For Mid Michigan

Cooler But Dry Weather For Mid Michigan

Today is much more comfortable so I’ll try to get my flowers in the ground.  Our sky still has a lot of smoke from the wildfires to our north which makes it appear cloudier than it actually is.  The sun is managing to shine through however.  Winds are very light so it’s perfect for being outdoors. Highs will only reach the low 80s and that’s perfect for me. Our 1PM temperature is 78°F (26°C), the humidity is 30%, and winds…

Extreme Dry Weather Results In Michigan Wildfire

Extreme Dry Weather Results In Michigan Wildfire

Wildfires are inevitable when we have no rain for an extended period.  That’s what happened yesterday in Grayling.  Fire burned 2400 acres and the last I heard, it was 85% contained.  I-75 was closed for most of yesterday but it is open now.  All evacuations have also been cancelled.  The fire is located just to the SE of the town of Grayling in northern lower Michigan.  No cause of the fire has been determined. As for us, today is giving…

Day 12 Of No Rain – Mid Michigan

Day 12 Of No Rain – Mid Michigan

No rain for almost two weeks is bad enough, but when you add in high temperatures near  90°F, that makes it worse.  There isn’t even the promise of rain for us anytime soon.  I had to go out and water my perennial plants that are staring to wilt.  I still don’t have my annuals planted and I’m waiting for next week when it should be much cooler.  Hopefully, we’ll get some rain soon. Our 3:45 PM temperature is 89°F (32°C),…

Another Hot Day In Mid Michigan

Another Hot Day In Mid Michigan

Spending any time outdoors today is out of the question, unless you are at the beach or a water park.  It never did cool down much overnight and the AC was on all night.  We can expect this weather to last for a few more days, then next week, temperatures should be closer to normal once again.  I can’t wait. Our 1:15 PM temperature is 86°F (30°C), the humidity is 38%, and skies are partly cloudy.  Winds are from the…

Just Plain Hot – Mid Michigan

Just Plain Hot – Mid Michigan

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I’m not a fan of hot weather.  When the temperature gets in the low 80s, that’s plenty warm enough for me.  Fortunately, our house stays cool well into the afternoon, even when the temp reaches  90 degrees, as long as we don’t open any windows.  Such is the case today.  Sometimes we just turn the AC  on to cool the house before we go to bed at night.  The humidity is very low…

Memorial Day In Mid Michigan

Memorial Day In Mid Michigan

There isn’t much to be said about the weather today except that it is hot and dry.  No real changes from the past week.  I’ll let it go at that. Our 6PM temperature is 85°F, the humidity is 24%, and skies are clear.  The dew point is 38°F and winds are from the NE at 1-5 mph.  The pressure is 29.88 in and falling and visibility is 19 miles.  The UV Index is low at 2.  Yesterday’s high was 85°F…

More Dry, Hot Weather For Mid Michigan

More Dry, Hot Weather For Mid Michigan

There is still no mention of rain in our extended forecast, and everything is getting very dry.  The humidity and dew points continue to be very low and that doesn’t help.  This has been great weather for the farmers to get the planting done, but now they desperately need rain.  We seem to have a bubble over us preventing any of the precipitation in the west to come our way.  I haven’t planted any of my annual flowers yet and…

Warm And Dry For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Warm And Dry For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Today will really feel like summer.  It is great for those going camping this weekend.  The weather couldn’t be more perfect for them.  Although the lakes haven’t had a chance to warm up  yet, I’m sure there will be those who brave the chill and take a dip anyway.  We have some hot weather heading our way next week and no mention of rain.  I’m hoping that this isn’t a sign of things to come this summer.  This is much…
