I got out this morning and measured our actual snow pack and it is now 7.3 inches. That’s down 3.2 inches from right after the storm last Wednesday. I don’t think that there was much melting but more settling than anything. I noticed some thawing yesterday but not much. We did briefly get over the freezing mark earlier but it didn’t last long. Clearing snow, even with a snowblower, is a lot of work when you have this much snow. We have clear skies today, but with temps in the teens, it doesn’t do much to warm it up. Yesterday was quite calm and not a bit stormy as originally predicted. There were a few flurries early in the day and the wind increased a little causing some drifting. The rain began late yesterday afternoon and continued into the overnight. I’m not sure when it changed over to snow but there was 3.5 inches already on my deck when I got up shortly after 8AM. All counties west of us have been upgraded to a winter storm warning, so we know for certain that it’s coming. The big question is how much snow we can expect. We seem to be right on the line between the 6-8 inch area, and the 12-14 inch area. Recent forecasts seem to be leaning toward the latter. It has been snowing steadily since I got up this morning and I’m estimating that we have about two inches so far.
