Mid Michigan Weather

Yesterday was quite tranquil until late afternoon.  We then began to see storms develop with even a tornado warning in the Jackson area.  I haven’t heard of any damage or actual tornadoes however.  We had a couple of thunderstorms move through early this morning giving us total of 0.54″ of precip for the day.  Today continues to see the possibility of more storm development and very warm temperatures.  Highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 80s with continued…

Thousands are still without power in northern lower Michigan after severe storms moved through the state on Tuesday night.  At least 4 tornadoes have been confirmed and much straight line wind damage in the mid sections of the state.  The above picture is from an EF2 tornado which struck in Lapeer.  Clare, Ogemaw, and Arenac Counties were also hard hit.  We were very lucky because although we received very heavy rain, there was no wind damage.  We did have quite…

Last night was very stormy in Michigan with many cleaning up the damage this morning.  Fortunately, all we got was heavy rain and a lot of thunder.  The central regions of the state seem to have the most damage.  Many trees are down and the roof blown off a house near West Branch.  Severe weather warnings and watches  were numerous last night, and I saw many CoCoRahs rain amounts this morning over 3 inches.  Needless to say, there are many…

Being outdoors today is very uncomfortable.  If not for the breeze, it would be unbearable, at least for me.  We have had mostly cloudy skies so far but no rain.  We did receive 0.19 in yesterday morning in thunderstorms that lasted about an hour.  The air remains very moist and there was light fog earlier today.  Skies remain mostly cloudy with peeks of the sun now and then. Our 3:30 PM temperature is 86°F (30°C),  the humidity is 64%, and…

I woke to see a large rain cell on radar approaching my area and my first thought was to get the dogs out before it started raining.  I’m glad that I did because it has been raining ever since; and it looks like there is still a bit to go before it passes.  We received a small shower yesterday which dropped 0.03″.  So far this morning, we have received 0.19″ from this storm with more to come.  We really do…

It feels so good out there this morning.  It is breezy and it was wonderful sleeping weather last night.  It seems good to have the AC turned off for a change.   Temperatures will only reach the low to mid 70s today and that makes me happy.  Sunshine should prevail most of the day and it will be a great day to get things done outdoors. Our 9:45 AM temp is 62°F (17°C), the humidity is 69%, and winds are from…

There was a trace of precip in my gauge this morning but I’m certain that it was from condensation, not rain.  These past few days have been very uncomfortable with these high dew points, but at least the temps are a little cooler.  There have been no significant rain events in the state except for some small cells which popped up over some areas, bringing heavy downpours and a little thunder.  They were sparse and far between however.  Classic auto…

Our Saturday morning is beginning with cloudy skies and very humid conditions.  It should be a mostly sunny day once the clouds and fog have dissipated.  There is a slight chance of a stray shower but not likely.  Yesterday was supposed to be our rainy day and it all fell apart before reaching us as usual. Our 9:45 AM temp is 70°F (21°C), the humidity is 90%, and winds are from the NW at 3 mph.  The pressure is 30.00…

To say it is uncomfortable is an understatement.  I sat outdoors with my dogs for a half hour and I felt damp.  I checked the dew point and it was at 70°F at that time.  I see that it has gone down a bit now.  This is not my kind of weather and I’m really looking forward to autumn. Right now (3:30 PM), our temp is 79°F (27°C),  the humidity is 60% and the dew point is 68°F (20°C).   The…

As anyone who reads my blog can tell.  I’m really tired of these hot temperatures.  I guess that I should be thankful that we haven’t had any severe weather this summer, and that the farmers have gotten enough rain for their crops even though we did go through a mini drought that lasted almost a month.  That seems to be over now.  Today, I finished trimming my forsythia bushes and that was a big job in this heat.  But I…
