Radar is showing some rain headed our way, and we could certainly use it. With the unseasonable heat that we have had, everything is drying out and lawns are brown. We had a dry thundershower last night, something quite rare for our area. We had a moderate but brief shower earlier which left us with 0.02 inches in my gauge. Today is much cooler with highs struggling to reach the low 70s. I have to admit that it feels good to me. Yesterday was too warm. Now that Hurricane Irma is pretty much history, her remnants are heading for us although it won’t have much affect on our weather. We do have rain in the forecast for today but is isn’t expected to amount to much. All of the people that I know in Florida seemed to survive Irma without too much damage and I’m happy for that. Now that Irma has become a tropical storm and no longer a threat to Florida, we can relax a bit,. All the people that I know are okay and not too much damage. That’s amazing consider the strength of this storm. Most of the folks I know live near and around the Tampa – Orlando areas and they were spared from a storm surge which was their biggest fear. It’s hard to think about anything else these days with friends and relatives facing this horrible hurricane in Florida. I know so many people there, many snowbirds and others who live there year round. Thankfully, the snowbirds are still here and wondering if they’ll have anything to go back to there. Today, although still on the chilly side, is a big improvement from the past two days. At least our high should be in the upper 60s, and with the sun, that will feel comfortable. We received about half an inch of badly needed rain over the past few days, something that we really needed. At least with the cool temps, the ground won’t dry out so fast.
