Mild Weather Continues – Mid Michigan

Mild Weather Continues – Mid Michigan

Yesterday and today seem quite calm with temps hovering around the freezing mark.  We are expected to reach 40° this afternoon, and I’m hoping that the ice on the deck melts enough that we can shovel it off.  We tried late yesterday with no results, but it didn’t get that warm.  Today and tomorrow are the warmest days expected this week. Our 10 AM temperature is 35°F (2°C), the humidity is 89%, and skies are overcast.  Winds are from the…

The Weather Still Is Undecided About What It Wants To Do – Mid Michigan

The Weather Still Is Undecided About What It Wants To Do – Mid Michigan

Our weather keeps switching from typical winter weather to spring-like.  Crazy!  Today is more like winter again but highs in the 40s will return over the next few day.  A snow/rain mix is also possible each day.  We still have the ice on the ground from Saturday and the tree branches are still covered in ice.  I’m not expecting that to change until possibly tomorrow when highs should reach 40°F.  Today feels a bit mild since there isn’t much wind,…

We Survived The Ice Storm But Could Get More Tonight – Mid Michigan

We Survived The Ice Storm But Could Get More Tonight – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was a mess but fortunately, most of the precipitation was already ice before hitting the ground.  That saved us from more power outages than what there were.  I measured about 1.5 inches of ice on my snow board this morning, and my rain gauge had to be thawed out with a hair dryer.  There was 0.74″ melted in my gauge which gave us well over two inches of precip over the past two days.  Flood warnings remain in effect…

Ice Storm Warning In Effect For Mid Michigan

Ice Storm Warning In Effect For Mid Michigan

The rain began around midnight and has continued through this morning.  There was 1.70 inches in my guage at 8:30 and it hasn’t stopped raining since.  Our power went out at around 6:30 this morning, but came back on at 8.  I was so happy to hear the furnace start up.  So far, all we have is rain, and I’m hoping that temps stay warm enough that it won’t freeze, but we probably won’t be that lucky.  The ice storm…

Winter Storm Watch In Effect For Most Of Lower Michigan

Winter Storm Watch In Effect For Most Of Lower Michigan

Most of the lower peninsula of Michigan is under some type of weather watch or warning and the next 48 hrs are expected to be a real challenge for all of us.  The northern portions are expected to have heavy snow and we’re expecting an ice storm.  The latest is calling for up to 3/4 of an inch of ice and I am fully expecting to lose power if that happens.  The generator is gassed up and ready.  In addition…

A Mixed Bag Of Weather – Mid Michigan

A Mixed Bag Of Weather – Mid Michigan

Yesterday started out with lake effect snow showers and those ended shortly after noon.  There was hardly any accumulation.  Today will be much warmer again but brisk winds will keep the comfort level down significantly.  I’m thinking that this will be the end of our above normal temps for a while.  There is a winter weather event knocking on our door for the weekend although it isn’t clear exactly how it will affect us.  At this time, it is looking…

Winter Has Returned To Mid Michigan

Winter Has Returned To Mid Michigan

This morning is very cold with intermittent lake effect show squalls.  We received a trace of snow overnight and it looks like snow will be here most of the day.  Temperatures will be much colder today and wind chills will be brisk.  I think that we will be seeing more normal weather from now on. Our 9:45 AM temperature is 20°F (-7°C), the humidity is 78%,  and winds are from the NW at 13 mph.  The wind chill is 8°F…

A Change Coming To Mid Michigan

A Change Coming To Mid Michigan

Yesterday was a very rare day for January here in Michigan.  For the entire day, there wasn’t one cloud in the skiy.  We didn’t see any until almost dark.  Unfortunately, the wind was unbearably strong with gusts reaching 30 mph at times.   Temperatures weren’t that warm either, so being outdoors, even with the sun, wasn’t that pleasant.  Temperatures today are a bit warmer but we have clouds once again. We have a few more days with above normal temps, then…

A Beautiful, Sunny Day In Mid Michigan

A Beautiful, Sunny Day In Mid Michigan

To look outdoors, it is a very pretty day.  But when you step out and the wind hits you, it isn’t so nice.  Never the less, just seeing the sun improves one’s mood.  Yesterday brought a mix of rain and snow.  We were down in Detroit most of the afternoon and they received about an inch of snow, but when we came home, the ground was bare.  There was 0.02in of water in my gauge this morning. Our 1:45 PM…

Seasonal Temperatures, Trace Of Snow For Mid Michigan

Seasonal Temperatures, Trace Of Snow For Mid Michigan

We received a slight amount of snow late yesterday, after a day of mist which coated everything in a light cover of ice early in the day.  We could see a mix of snow and rain later but no great amounts are expected here.  Temperatures hovered right around the freezing mark all day Saturday, and it should be a little warmer today.  We’ve been very lucky so far this year weather-wise.  I know that it won’t last. Our 9:45 AM…
