I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
A Beautiful Day On Tap For Mid Michigan

A Beautiful Day On Tap For Mid Michigan

We have an outstanding day to look forward to with highs expected to get close to the 70 degree mark.  It will be quite breezy but will still be nice.  Yesterday was great too and we sat outdoors for about an hour in perfect comfort with no coats.  I know that it’s too early for this to last but it sure is nice while we have it.  We could see some rain tomorrow night and I hope it happens.  It…

A Beautiful March Day In Mid Michigan

A Beautiful March Day In Mid Michigan

We are blessed with another warm day with light breezes and clear skies.  This is the first time this year that we are sitting outdoors with no coat.  The sun is really  warm although the wind is a bit chilly.  I brought some of the lawn furniture out since I think it’s safe.  If we still get a little snow, it won’t hurt anything.  My crocus are starting to pop up as are my daffodils.  There are large buds on…

A Lovely First Day Of Spring in Mid Michigan

A Lovely First Day Of Spring in Mid Michigan

Today, Spring officially begins and the weather couldn’t be nicer.  Skies are clear, winds are light, and temperatures should reach near 60F.  It’s perfect for getting out and doing some spring clean up in the yard.  The moles have been busy making their little mole hills.  Some look more like volcanoes, and we need to do something about that.  When we had horses, we didn’t have that problem with them stomping the ground.  Those little varmints sure mess up the…

Wind Advisory Until 8 PM For Mid Michigan

Wind Advisory Until 8 PM For Mid Michigan

We were supposed to get rain last night but it all went around us.  The issue today is the wind.  We could see gusts as high as 45 mph with the strongest between the hours of 3 PM to 7 PM.  The advisory remains in effect until 8 PM.  Right now it is very windy and not pleasant to be outdoors.  We have seen a few peeks of the sun but it didn’t last long.  Yesterday was very nice with…

A Beautiful St Paddy’s Day In Mid Michigan

A Beautiful St Paddy’s Day In Mid Michigan

Today is absolutely lovely with plenty of sun and very light breezes.  This doesn’t happen very often.  Unfortunately, it won’t last long with more clouds and rain/snow expected for tonight and tomorrow.  At least we have today and God is smiling on the Irish.  We have a fairly new Irish Pub here in the village of Vernon, about 4 miles from my house, and we’re going there for dinner tonight.  I hope it isn’t too packed. Our 2 PM temperature…

Winter Is Returning Tonight In Mid Michigan

Winter Is Returning Tonight In Mid Michigan

After another very chilly night, our temperatures will not be rebounding much today.  Highs will only reach near 40 degrees, and there is some wintry weather expected tonight.  We aren’t expecting much in accumulations, but it could be a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow by the time it is finished.  Weather maps are showing that we could get up to an inch of snow but that remains to be seen.  We have a little sun this morning,…

A Bit Calmer In Mid Michigan

A Bit Calmer In Mid Michigan

After three very windy days, today is much calmer.  Although not as warm, it is definitely more pleasant to be outdoors.  We have had sun all morning but now there are clouds moving in.  There is no precipitation in the  forecast anytime soon and our temperatures are still quite mild.  The snow is now completely gone and I’m hoping that we see no more this spring.  I know that’s asking a lot this early in the season. Our 2 PM…

Calmer Winds, Sunny Skies For Our Friday – Mid Michigan

Calmer Winds, Sunny Skies For Our Friday – Mid Michigan

After two days of ridiculously strong winds, today will be more normal for most of us. Although the winds will still be quite strong, they won’t be nearly as bad as they were on Wednesday and Thursday. We have a nice bright sunny morning and our temperatures won’t be as warm as what they have been, but it will still be comfortable to get out and about. Highs will only reach near 50 degrees today. Our 10:30 AM temp is…

Another Blustery But Sunny Day – Mid Michigan

Another Blustery But Sunny Day – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was very windy, and it is even more so today.  The temperatures are wonderful but who can enjoy it with wind gusts up to 40 mph? Highs made it into the low 70s once again on Wednesday,  and we reached a high of 64 earlier today.  Now temperatures are starting to fall and with the winds, it will seem bitter, even with temps in the 50s.  We did manage to get some rain early this morning, and there was…

Another Beautiful Spring-Like Day In Mid Michigan

Another Beautiful Spring-Like Day In Mid Michigan

After having the weather that we are, it will be hard to go back to “normal” again.  We have two more days of this, then highs will fall back to the 40s once again.  I have to admit that it’s been a great reprieve from the cold weather and I think that we all needed that.  All the snow is now gone.  This morning was mostly cloudy but skies cleared by early afternoon and temps rose into the low 60s…
