I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
More Heavy Rain On The Way For Mid Michigan

More Heavy Rain On The Way For Mid Michigan

Although temperatures today will be almost record setting, with the heat comes another round of heavy rain.  This will probably be the last of our 80 degree weather for the year, but I just wish that we had sun and pleasant weather to go with it.  This morning is mostly cloudy with a few peeks of the sun, and there is a heavy dew.  My flowers are pretty much done for the year except my dahlias.  They seem to like…

A Very Wet Drive Home Sunday From Northern Michigan

A Very Wet Drive Home Sunday From Northern Michigan

We decided to pack up and return home one day early because of the weather.  Rain was forecasted for most of Sunday and Monday morning, so we got on the road just as it started.  It rained all the way home.  Saturday began a bit wet but by afternoon, it was clear and sunny.  The wind was a bit brisk however, and it made for a chilly day.  We took a drive  up to Mackinaw City and couldn’t believe how…

A Total Washout In Northern Michigan For Our Friday

A Total Washout In Northern Michigan For Our Friday

All it did yesterday was rain.  We spent most of the day driving around and visiting relatives in Cheboygan, so it was a nice day in spite of the rain.  Today should be dry but not much sun.  Our campground is closing down little by little, and the seasonal people are showing up to pack up their RV’s and getting ready for storage or hauling them home.  I’m expecting this weekend to be a bit busy since the campground officially…

More Overnight Rain In Northern Michigan

More Overnight Rain In Northern Michigan

We have been very lucky so far with rain.  It has happened overnight and our days have been nice.  Yesterday was much nicer than what was predicted and highs even made it into the low 70s.  Today is expected to be dry but chilly.  My kids are coming up so I was hoping that it would be nice tonight for a fire.  There were some storms that formed just to our north last night but we didn’t get much rain…

First Day In Northern Michigan Was A Beauty.

First Day In Northern Michigan Was A Beauty.

I’m wishing that this entire week could be like yesterday but I know that It won’t be.  After the morning fog cleared away, yesterday was gorgeous.  Highs reached the mid 70s and skies were clear all day.  We did get a little rain overnight but now that seems to be over.  There are some showers showing on radar but they appear to be well to our south.  My kids will be coming up tomorrow and will stay through the weekend. …

A Cold, Foggy Morning In Northern Michigan

A Cold, Foggy Morning In Northern Michigan

Our morning started out with some sun, but suddenly, I’m seeing fog and no sun.  This morning is very chilly and I had to run the furnace for a while.  We drove up yesterday through one shower after another, but it ended soon after we got here.  I hate setting up in the rain so we were lucky.  The campground is very quiet with most of the seasonal people gone, but there are still a few of us diehards who…

A Very Wet Sunday For Mid Michigan

A Very Wet Sunday For Mid Michigan

Yesterday at around 5 PM, we had a pop-up rain storm which dropped 0.54″ of rain in about 15 minutes.  We are expecting more throughout today so it looks like it will be a near washout.  We leave for the north country tomorrow morning and I’m hoping that this rain will be over by the time we have to pack up.  We will certainly have cooler weather, but as long as it isn’t rainy everyday, I won’t mind that.  This…

The Last Of Our Summer Weather – Mid Michigan

The Last Of Our Summer Weather – Mid Michigan

Today is starting out with sun and very warm temperatures.  A cold front is expected to move in tomorrow bringing much cooler temps and rain.  We are heading up to our campground on Monday and I was hoping that this weather would last a while longer, but I guess it isn’t to be.  Local forecasts are calling for the rain to be over by early Monday morning and I sure hope that they are right. Our 10:30 AM temperature is…

Clouds, Sprinkles And A little Sun – Mid Michigan

Clouds, Sprinkles And A little Sun – Mid Michigan

Although there isn’t much showing on radar, we did manage to get a small shower this morning, which left just a few sprinkles but not enough to measure.  The sun is out right now but the sky is mostly cloudy.   Our forecast is calling for just a slight chance of rain today and not much sun.  Temperatures will be very warm so it won’t be a bad day at all. Our 11:30 AM temperature is 76°F (24°C), the humidity is…
