I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Much Cooler Weather For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Much Cooler Weather For Our Saturday – Mid Michigan

Our lows last night fell into the 40s in some areas which is really cool for this date.  Right now, it is only 71°F and I don’t think it will get much warmer as the day goes on.  It’s even too chilly to open the windows.   If the sun wasn’t shining, it would be uncomfortable.  That’s okay.  I’ll take this over the 90s anytime.  This isn’t an end to our summer weather as we should be back i the 80s…

Back Home After A Week In Northern Michigan

Back Home After A Week In Northern Michigan

We had an uneventful drive home yesterday after a week of very nice weather up north.  Conditions there are very dry and they really need rain, but we were happy that the week saw very little while we were there.  I always hate coming home but we’ll be going back again in late September.  Our temperatures have really cooled off and highs today are expected to only reach the low to mid 70s.  Our local weatherman has assured us that…

Our August Camping Trip Is Almost Done – Northern Michigan

Our August Camping Trip Is Almost Done – Northern Michigan

I can’t believe how quickly this past week has gone.  Our weather has been much nicer than at home.  It was quite stormy in southern Michigan once again with various severe storm warnings issued.  It seems, however, that most was thunder and lightning with very little rain.  Strangely enough, the humidity remained low and I think that most of the storms dried up quite a bit before reaching our county.  I’m seeing that a few areas received over an inch…

Tuesday, August 20 In Northern Michigan

Tuesday, August 20 In Northern Michigan

We had another beautiful day on Monday here at our campground.  There was a nice breeze and temperatures were just right.  I didn’t even need the AC until late in the day.  Our new trailer has a lot of windows which reduces the need for the AC and I’m happy about that.  Today’s high should be well into the 80s and no rain in the forecast: Our 9:30 temperature is 67°F (19°C), the humidity is 78% and skies are clear. …

A Sunny Start To The Week In Northern Michigan

A Sunny Start To The Week In Northern Michigan

After a stormy Sunday in much of the state, our Monday is beginning with cool temperatures and plenty of sun.  We received a few quick showers on Sunday but that was all.  The Detroit area had quite a few heavy storms but they all missed the Durand area.   There is no rain in our forecast today so it should be a good day. Our 10 AM temperature is 70°F (21°C), the humidity is 57%, and winds are from the west…

Severe weather a Possibility In Michigan Today

Severe weather a Possibility In Michigan Today

The Weather Service is already warning us that this could be a very stormy day.  There are already storms moving into the state from the southwest and some watches have been issued.  They are saying that there is a low risk for severe weather up here where we are, but I think that the southern half of the state will be more prone to be hit.  Hopefully there won’t be a lot of damage. Our 9:30 AM temp is 64°F…

A Dreary, Wet Saturday in Northern Michigan

A Dreary, Wet Saturday in Northern Michigan

Yesterday was gorgeous until the late evening when rain moved in from the southwest.  We didn’t get any here at camp until about 9:30 PM, then overnight.  I’m not sure how much but I’m guessing about 0.10″.  Skies should clear later on and highs should reach the upper 70s  We could still see a few showers yet this morning. Our 9:15 AM temperature is 68°F, the humidity is 90%, and winds are from the SSW at 2 mph.  Skies are…

Very Chilly In Northern Michigan

Very Chilly In Northern Michigan

Our drive up to camp was quite wet as we ran into off and on showers all the way up.  By the time we reached Indian River, it was dry.  At least we didn’t have to set up in the rain.  This morning, however, is very chilly with the temperature at only 43°F at 7 AM.  There was a fog advisory out early but I didn’t see any, and now the sun is shining with mostly clear skies.  I think…

I Can’t Believe That All The Rain Missed Us – Mid Michigan

I Can’t Believe That All The Rain Missed Us – Mid Michigan

We were supposed to get a good rain last night, and as usual, we didn’t get a drop.  It all “trained” through the southern part of the state and we remain high and dry.  Some areas near Detroit got up to 4 inches and I’m sure that there is some flooding.  Who said that computers are always accurate? Our 10 AM temp is 72°F (22°C), the humidity is 67%, and winds are from the east at 7 mph.  The dew…

A Chance For Some Much Needed Rain Tonight – Mid Michigan

A Chance For Some Much Needed Rain Tonight – Mid Michigan

We have significant rain in our forecast for later today and tonight.  I hope it happens.  We haven’t had a good rain in about a month with every storm just missing us.  This forecast seems quite hopeful though.  Today will bring highs in the 80s, then a cool-down for the remainder of the week.  That sounds good to me. Our 10:15 AM temperature is 78°F (26°C), the humidity is 61%, and winds are from the WSW at 5 mph.  The…
