I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
A Sunny Wednesday Morning For Mid Michigan

A Sunny Wednesday Morning For Mid Michigan

Tuesday was beautiful, both in Northern Michigan and lower portions of the state.  We drove home yesterday and had to detour around one road which had been washed out by Sunday’s storms.  There is more rain in the forecast today but mainly up north.  I’m glad that we decided to come home yesterday.  I can’t really complain as our weather up there was wonderful most of the week. Our 11:30 AM temperature is 76°F (24°C), the humidity is 44% and…

A Sunny Day Before The Next Rain Event – Northern Michigan

A Sunny Day Before The Next Rain Event – Northern Michigan

After the clouds cleared away yesterday, it turned into quite a nice day.  The morning was cold, windy, and damp, but the sky began to clear about 5 PM and the evening was very pleasant.  We took advantage of it and had our last campfire for this trip.  We were supposed to leave tomorrow, but there is another rain system moving it tonight, so we decided to leave today rather than having to pack up in the rain.  Some areas…

Our Last Days In Northern Michigan Will Be Wet

Our Last Days In Northern Michigan Will Be Wet

Yesterday began with a little sun and very mild temperatures.  Then the rains came around mid afternoon, becoming very heavy by nightfall.  I don’t have a rain gauge here but I know that what we received had to be well over an inch.  Looking at the CocoRahs reports from near by stations, they are reporting anywhere from 1.35″ to 1.5″.  The rain has moved off now but winds have picked up and it is not a nice morning.  Tomorrow is…

A Little Sun Before The Rain Moves In – Northern Michigan

A Little Sun Before The Rain Moves In – Northern Michigan

It isn’t sounding like the next few days will be very nice.  Rain is supposed to move in tonight and continue through tomorrow.   I’m just hoping that it isn’t a wash out.  Last night was a busy one here at the campground with people, dogs, kids on scooters and bikes everywhere.  This morning is a bit more quiet with the weekenders packing up and leaving.  I rather enjoy the activity but just not all the time.  We certainly can’t complain…

Sunny And Dry In Northern Michigan

Sunny And Dry In Northern Michigan

We are blessed with another beautiful morning and the campground has really filled up.  People were coming in droves last night and there was a lot of activity for a change.  It will be this way now until September.  We are expecting highs in the 80s today and there is no rain in the forecast until Sunday night.  I guess we have to expect a few rainy days but at least it’s dry for the weekenders. Our 9:30 AM temperature…

We Have Fine Weather In Northern Michigan

We Have Fine Weather In Northern Michigan

We arrived here at the campground on Wednesday and the weather has been wonderful.  Although a bit on the chilly side, at least the sun is shining.  We went down to the In law’s cabins yesterday and Lake Huron was very calm.  They lost most of their beach with the water being so high and they’re hoping that it doesn’t rise anymore.  Our extended forecast is looking good with no rain expected until late Sunday and highs in the mid…

Sunny With A Chance Of Rain For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

Sunny With A Chance Of Rain For Our Tuesday – Mid Michigan

Our morning sky is clear but a grayish tint is visible.  There are wild fires in northwestern Canada that are causing this.  Regardless, it is a beautiful morning and the temperatures are rising quickly. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing more normal temps than what we have had lately.  Some are wondering if we’ll even have a summer this year.  It is very late in coming. Our 9:30 AM temp is 63°F (17°C), the humidity is 52% and skies are clear.  The…

Finally, A Sunny Day – Mid Michigan

Finally, A Sunny Day – Mid Michigan

Today looks to be a nice day although a bit too chilly.  Highs are still  much below where they should be but we’ll definitely take the sun.  Yesterday was  quite nice with sun all day except for a brief cloudy period and a few rain drops.  Our lawn is like a sponge after all the rain that we’ve had and I’m hoping that this week will be a drying out period.  That’s what is predicted right now but we all…

A Very Stormy Saturday For Mid Michigan

A Very Stormy Saturday For Mid Michigan

We received storm after storm on Saturday with severe thunderstorm warnings frequently issued.  They mainly passed over without consequence in my  area but dropped 1.27″ of rain in all.  Watching the radar, many were  forming just to our west and increasing in strength as they moved east.  Today should see a bit of drying out with sun in the forecast.  The poor farmers just can’t seem to get a break.  It has been much too wet for planting and it’s…

Finally, Summer Weather Expected Today – Mid Michigan

Finally, Summer Weather Expected Today – Mid Michigan

Predictions are for highs in the upper 70s today with sun.  That has been a rarity lately and it seemed like the rain would never end.  As for our temperatures, we’ll see if they are right today.  Lately, the predictions have been way off for our area, with our highs remaining much below normal.  I’m not planting many flowers this year.  It’s getting harder all the time for me to maintain my gardens, so I think I’ll just plant rose…
