I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Two Inches Of Snow For Our Thursday Morning In Mid Michigan

Two Inches Of Snow For Our Thursday Morning In Mid Michigan

Yup, we woke up to a white world once again.  Most of it was supposed to be rain but that didn’t happen.  It began about midnight and I’m not sure when it ended, but there was two inches to shovel off the deck this morning.  The pups weren’t too happy about it either.  They thought that spring was here.  Didn’t we all?  What’s worse it that  the weekend it expected to be stormy with strong winds expected . . ….

Nasty, Winter Weather Returning To Mid Michigan

Nasty, Winter Weather Returning To Mid Michigan

We have to let go of the fine, spring weather that we have had over the past several days, and get ready for some  rain / snow/ sleet / freezing rain which will begin tonight.  This is expected to continue into the weekend and we won’t see anything near 70°F for awhile.  That really isn’t unusual for early April in Michigan, and it’s still better than what last April was like.  At least, even if there is measurable snow this…

Warmer Than Normal Continues In Mid Michigan

Warmer Than Normal Continues In Mid Michigan

Yesterday was a real treat for us with a high of 71°F in the afternoon.  Today isn’t quite as nice but still warmer than normal.  We have a brisk west wind which is a bit uncomfortable but still a nice day compared to what it could be.  Once again, we have snow in our forecast although we shouldn’t get that much here.  Plus, whatever we get isn’t going to last that long.   That’s supposed to happen later this week. Our…

Real Spring Weather Has Arrived in Mid Michigan

Real Spring Weather Has Arrived in Mid Michigan

This weekend should be a real winner for us in the mitten state.  Highs should reach well into the 60s and little if no rain is expected.  I think it’s time to start getting some screens on the windows or getting my flower beds cleaned out.  Maybe I’ll do a little of each. Our 9 AM temp is 45°F (7°C), the humidity is 99% and we had dense fog earlier but most has burned off now.  Winds are calm and…

A Touch Of Winter Returned On Thursday – Mid Michigan

A Touch Of Winter Returned On Thursday – Mid Michigan

We had a cold east wind blowing all day Thursday and a mix of rain and sleet fell late Thursday night.  Some reported freezing rain but I didn’t see any evidence of that here.  I could hear sleet hitting my windows for a short time, but then it turned back to all rain.  There was 0.07″ in my gauge this morning and radar is showing most of the mess to be past us now.  It should be a fairly decent…

Cloudy And Cool For Our Thursday – Mid Michigan

Cloudy And Cool For Our Thursday – Mid Michigan

Today should be dry until tonight, but we won’t see much sun and temperatures are below normal once again.  At least the winds have calmed down.  We have some much warmer air heading our way for Saturday and Sunday so we have that to look forward to.  I need to get out and clean my flower beds, getting all the dead stuff out.  I haven’t checked any of my spring flowers yet but I’m sure that they are starting to…

A Period Of Above Normal Temperatures Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

A Period Of Above Normal Temperatures Heading Our Way – Mid Michigan

Our upcoming days appear to be wonderful with temperatures well above normal and not too much rain.  We can’t ask for much better than that in April.  I’m expecting to start seeing tractors and farm equipment at any time since the fields are drying out nicely and almost ready to  get fit to plant.  Today will still be a bit cool but highs in the 60s are expected for the weekend.  Lovely! Our 12:15 PM temperature is 46°F (8°C), the…

NOAA’s April Forecast For Michigan – Above Normal Temps

NOAA’s April Forecast For Michigan – Above Normal Temps

NOAA has released it’s prediction for this month’s weather.  Most of the country is expected to have above normal temperatures which is a complete swing from April of 2018.  So the winter haters can rejoice.  I think we all get a bit tired of winter by this time of year, and any snowfall . . . . even flurries,  doesn’t set well with most people.  Yesterday was very chilly, but today’s high should reach normal levels.  By next weekend, we…

Snow Once Again In Mid Michigan

Snow Once Again In Mid Michigan

We had rain most of yesterday, but by late afternoon, it was changing to snow.  We now have a quarter of an inch on the ground and 0.36″ of total precip for the day.  Yes, it looks like winter once again.  On the positive side, highs tomorrow are expected to reach the upper 40s so this snow should be short lived.  I’m also noticing that the grass is starting to green up and the birds have been very vocal.  It’s…

Rain And Snow for Our Final March Weekend – Mid Michigan

Rain And Snow for Our Final March Weekend – Mid Michigan

So far, our weather has been quite normal for this time of year.  Highs have been  a bit above normal and no one is complaining about that.  We are returning to winter this weekend however.  We aren’t expecting a lot of snow, maybe up to an inch, but it is not welcome this late in March.  Rain began overnight and there was 0.45″ in my gauge this morning.  Light rain has continued since then and this should be the order…
