I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
The Feel Of Winter Is With Us . . . .

The Feel Of Winter Is With Us . . . .

Today is one of the coldest that we have had yet this winter.  Skies continue to be cloudy and occasional snow flurried appear from time to time.  The wind isn’t too bad and that makes it tolerable.  This weather is a shock to the system after the mild December that we had; but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.  After all, it is January. Our 2 PM temperature is 27°F (-3°C), the humidity is 65%, and skies are cloudy.  It…

Another “Yucky” Day . . . .

Another “Yucky” Day . . . .

I guess I shouldn’t complain.  We could be buried under a foot of snow.  There is a winter storm brewing next week, from what I understand.  My son has an appointment in Detroit on Wednesday, and I pray that the roads will be good that day.  If not, we’ll be rescheduling once again.  Tuesday is the day that the storm will hit our area, but there is plenty of time for it to change it’s mind.  We can only hope….

Finally, A Little Sun . .. .

Finally, A Little Sun . .. .

After a cloudy, dull couple of days, we are finally seeing the sun this afternoon.  I was having my doubts this morning, but the clouds are finally moving out.  Unfortunately, it won’t make much difference in the comfort factor outdoors, but at least it isn’t dreary anymore.  We have strong winds making it feel colder than what the thermometer reads so I’m glad that I don’t have to go anywhere. Our 3 PM temperature is 33°F, the humidity is 78%,…

A Gloomy, Cold New Years Day . . ..

A Gloomy, Cold New Years Day . . ..

New Years Eve was uneventful for us, and the ball dropped without much fanfare here at our house.  It doesn’t cause much excitement for us anymore and just marks the end of the Christmas activity for the most part.  Our weather was misty but not cold enough to freeze, at least until early this morning.  There was a light covering of snow on my deck and other smooth surfaces  and most has melted.  Highs today never made it above freezing…

Another Yucky Day For New Years . . . . . .

Another Yucky Day For New Years . . . . . .

2023 is ending on a gloomy, wet note, and the sun only showed itself for about 5 minutes yesterday.  So much for our partly sunny Saturday.  Today will be wet with snow in the forecast.  We did have a very light covering early and it melted soon after I got up this morning.  There was only 0.03″ of melted precip in my gauge with fine mist.  For those who plan to go partying later, I don’t think that the roads…

Rain Should End . . . .

Rain Should End . . . .

Yesterday was wet and cold.  Today is even colder but at least it’s dry.  There was a trace of snow on the ground this morning, but it is gone now.  There is no precip in our forecast and it was supposed to become sunny by this afternoon.  So far, that hasn’t happened.  I’m seeing a chance for some snow showers tomorrow, but then the rest of the week should be dry.  Those going out on New Year’s Eve should have…

Wet And Drizzly . . . . .

Wet And Drizzly . . . . .

Nothing more can be said about today except that it’s nasty outdoors.  We received quite a bit of rain overnight with  0.41″ in my rain gauge this morning.  Since then we have had drizzle and mist with a bit of fog, and our forecast is calling for an end to it later today.  Sunshine is expected tomorrow and I hope that doesn’t change. Our 2:30 PM temperature is 41°F, the humidity is 95%, and skies are overcast with light rain. …

Continued Mild For Now . . . .

Continued Mild For Now . . . .

Although our highs today won’t be as warm as the past several days, they will still be above the average.  We received 0.14″ of rain late yesterday and overnight and we now have just cloudy skies.  We could see a little more rain today but radar is showing it all to our south at this time.   Winds will be light so not a bad day so far. Our 12:45 PM temperature is 43°F (6°C), the humidity is 97%, and skies…

The Dark Days Of Winter . . . .

The Dark Days Of Winter . . . .

We have yet another dark, gloomy day with rain.  Temperatures are way above where they should be for this date, and that’s the only good thing.  This is expected to continue until Saturday, but then temps will become closer to normal.  This has been a very easy winter for us so far.  A little snow would be nice at some point, but none expected anytime soon. Our 1 PM temperature is 42°F, the humidity is 97% and skies are overcast. …

A Gloomy Day After Christmas . . ..

A Gloomy Day After Christmas . . ..

Although today has looked like rain all day, we haven’t gotten a drop as yet.  Rain is in the forecast  for tonight, although no great amounts are expected.  No sun is in the forecast until Saturday and rain is in the forecast everyday.  I think that I’ve said a few times, that I’d rather have snow this time of year.  Daylight hours are short enough without the gloom of a rainy day.  Unfortunately, I have no control over it.  I…
