I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Merry Christmas From Mid Michigan

Merry Christmas From Mid Michigan

We had a little sun earlier today, but now clouds have taken over.  It looks like rain but none so far.  Temps are mild but the dampness gives the day a chilly feel.  It’s a quiet day for us.  The family is all here but my daughter had to leave because she works tomorrow.  My oldest son is here until Wednesday.  They both live near Detroit. our 4:30 PM temperature is 51°F.  The humidity is 87% and skies are overcast. …

Drizzle, Fog, But Mild Temps For Our Christmas Eve . . .

Drizzle, Fog, But Mild Temps For Our Christmas Eve . . .

It’s going to be a gloomy day, but at least it’s warm.  Temps could even possibly reach near the record high.  It’s going to be a very green Christmas and it will be good traveling for family gatherings.  I’m seeing possible freezing rain to our west on the national forecast map, but it shouldn’t affect us at all.  We do have some light fog but not enough to affect driving. Our 11 AM temperature is 45°F, the humidity is 100%,…

Another Gloomy Day . . . . .

Another Gloomy Day . . . . .

We received 0.66″ of rain overnight and into early this morning.  Now the rain has stopped and the radar is clear.  Temperatures are very mild and winds are light.  So other than there being a thick cloud cover, it isn’t a bad day at all.  My family all made trips to the store earlier and complained about how crowded the stores were.  That should be no surprise with Christmas just two days away.  I’m glad I don’t have to go….

Dark And Dreary Once Again . . . . .

Dark And Dreary Once Again . . . . .

Although our temperatures will be warming up over the weekend, it would be great if a sunny day would be included, but that’s not the case.  Clouds and rain showers seem to be the norm over the next week or so.  At least driving should be good. Our 1:45 PM temperature is 39°F (4°C), the humidity is 94%, and skies are overcast with light rain.  Winds are from the SE at 2-5 mph, and the dew point is 36°F (2°C). …

Another Snowless December Day . . . .

Another Snowless December Day . . . .

Our morning is beginning with frost and light cloud cover.  We aren’t expecting any precipitation today or even tomorrow.  Our holiday weekend is expected to be wet but no snow.  Temperatures on Christmas should reach into the 50s, so much different from last year when we were snowed in. Our 11 AM temperature is 36°F (2°C), the humidity is 91%, and skies have a light cloud cover.  Winds are from the east at 3-5 mph, and the dew point is…

Becoming Sunny . . . . . .

Becoming Sunny . . . . . .

Our morning began with clouds which then moved off to the north.  Now our sky is almost clear and it looks like it’s going to be a very nice day.  It could be a little warmer but it is lovely for late December.  This is the first day of our holiday warm-up, and temperatures on Christmas could reach the mid 50s.  This isn’t good for snow lovers but I think we’ll get our share before winter’s end. Our 1:45 PM…

Sunny But Cold . . . . .

Sunny But Cold . . . . .

Yesterday was a miserable day to be out and about.  We did have strong winds, up to 40 mph, and intermittent snow showers which made driving very hazardous.  Most of our snow is gone but some still remains in shady areas, like my deck.  With the sun out, it appears to be quite nice, but temps will remain in the 30s with wind chills in the 20s.  It certainly does feel like winter.  Christmas Day will feel more like Easter…

A Snowy, Blustery Day. . …

A Snowy, Blustery Day. . …

Our morning started out with light snow showers which has produced about half an inch so far.  We aren’t expecting too much, just enough to brighten the landscape a bit.  I don’t think that it will last long since the ground is warm and temperatures will rise above freezing by the afternoon.  In fact, they already have.  The biggest issue today will be the wind, with gusts as high as 40 mph possible.  It’ll be a good day just to…

A Wet, Soggy Day . . . . .

A Wet, Soggy Day . . . . .

Rain moved in sometime overnight and has continued intermittently since then.  Radar is showing most of it pushing off to the east, so I don’t think that today will be a total washout.  Temperatures continue above average but fall to around where they should be by early next week.  Then by Christmas, the temps will be quite warm again, so no white Christmas for us this year. Our 12:45 PM temperature is 45°F (7°C), the humidity is 96%, and skies…

Rain On The Way For Our Weekend . . . . .

Rain On The Way For Our Weekend . . . . .

Our Saturday is beginning with cloudy skies but mild temperatures.   Normal temps will be back with us early next week, but then another bout of above average temperatures for the Christmas weekend.  This has been the pattern most of this year.  I’m not complaining, especially with what we dealt with last Christmas. Our 10:45 AM temperature is 46°F (8°C), the humidity is 63%, and winds are from the SE at 3-6 mph.  Our wind chill is 42°F (6°C) and the…
