A Major Winter Storm In Progress – Mid Michigan

A Major Winter Storm In Progress – Mid Michigan

So far, we have a very fine but relatively heavy snow falling at this time.  It’s almost like powder.  With the winds and low temperatures, it is not a good day to be out and about.  Everything is closed including most city and county offices.  How much snow that we are expecting varies according to who you listen to, but the general consensus seems to be anywhere from 7 to 9 inches for my area.  Counties just to our north could expect up to a foot.  I’m saying a prayer for all who must go out like the police, fire dept, and road commission people.  I also can’t forget my former colleagues at the hospital who may get stuck there tonight.  With the extreme cold that will be coming over the next several days, I  pray that no one loses power or that their water pipes don’t freeze.

Our 10:15 AM temperature is 12.4°F (-11°C), the humidity is 84%, and wind are from the east at 15 mph, giving us a wind chill of -4°F (-20°C).  Visibility is less than a mile and the dew point is 8°F (-13°C).  The pressure is 29,.79 in and falling.  Yesterday’s high was 17°F (-8°C) and the overnight low was -6°F (-21°C).  Averages for this date are 27°F / 14°F.  Sunrise was at 7:55 AM and the sun will set at 5:43 PM.
