Mid Michigan Weather

Our weather keeps switching from typical winter weather to spring-like.  Crazy!  Today is more like winter again but highs in the 40s will return over the next few day.  A snow/rain mix is also possible each day.  We still have the ice on the ground from Saturday and the tree branches are still covered in ice.  I’m not expecting that to change until possibly tomorrow when highs should reach 40°F.  Today feels a bit mild since there isn’t much wind,…

Yesterday was a mess but fortunately, most of the precipitation was already ice before hitting the ground.  That saved us from more power outages than what there were.  I measured about 1.5 inches of ice on my snow board this morning, and my rain gauge had to be thawed out with a hair dryer.  There was 0.74″ melted in my gauge which gave us well over two inches of precip over the past two days.  Flood warnings remain in effect…

The rain began around midnight and has continued through this morning.  There was 1.70 inches in my guage at 8:30 and it hasn’t stopped raining since.  Our power went out at around 6:30 this morning, but came back on at 8.  I was so happy to hear the furnace start up.  So far, all we have is rain, and I’m hoping that temps stay warm enough that it won’t freeze, but we probably won’t be that lucky.  The ice storm…

Most of the lower peninsula of Michigan is under some type of weather watch or warning and the next 48 hrs are expected to be a real challenge for all of us.  The northern portions are expected to have heavy snow and we’re expecting an ice storm.  The latest is calling for up to 3/4 of an inch of ice and I am fully expecting to lose power if that happens.  The generator is gassed up and ready.  In addition…

Yesterday started out with lake effect snow showers and those ended shortly after noon.  There was hardly any accumulation.  Today will be much warmer again but brisk winds will keep the comfort level down significantly.  I’m thinking that this will be the end of our above normal temps for a while.  There is a winter weather event knocking on our door for the weekend although it isn’t clear exactly how it will affect us.  At this time, it is looking…

This morning is very cold with intermittent lake effect show squalls.  We received a trace of snow overnight and it looks like snow will be here most of the day.  Temperatures will be much colder today and wind chills will be brisk.  I think that we will be seeing more normal weather from now on. Yesterday was a very rare day for January here in Michigan.  For the entire day, there wasn’t one cloud in the skiy.  We didn’t see any until almost dark.  Unfortunately, the wind was unbearably strong with gusts reaching 30 mph at times.   Temperatures weren’t that warm either, so being outdoors, even with the sun, wasn’t that pleasant.  Temperatures today are a bit warmer but we have clouds once again.
