Once again, our world will be white. A winter storm, that has caused much uncertainty over the past few days, will be arriving later today. It will start as rain then turn to snow as temperatures drop. At this time it looks like we’ll be getting 2-4 inches of heavy, wet snow. Winds will be increasing making it miserable to be out and about. I’m happy that I don’t have to go anywhere. Our 10 AM temperature is 35.2°F (2°C),…
Yesterday was gorgeous for a February day. Record highs were the norm with some reaching 60°F. But now we must pay. There are no watches or warnings yet but I’m afraid that they are coming. We made a one day trip up to Cheboygan and checked on the inlaw’s cabins. There were still pockets of fairly deep snow there but otherwise, everything seem to be doing well. Ice remained near the Lake Huron shoreline but open water further out. It…
Yesterday really felt like spring in spite of the strong winds. We were under a wind advisory until 2 PM, and even after that winds continued to be uncomfortably strong. Wind gusts were as high as 50 mph in some places and many lost power. Today is expected to be beautiful with clear skies and light winds. Unfortunately, I have to work this afternoon. I’m hearing that March could be coming in like a lion with more heavy rain possible. …
We received 0.02 inches of rain overnight and it looks like today won’t be very pleasant being out and about. Although temperatures will be mild, wind chills will make it seem much colder. Our highs continue to be about 10° above normal and this is expected to continue through March. If this is true, maybe the groundhog should retire. We are under a wind advisory until 2 PM with possible gust up to 45 mph. Our 9:15 AM temp is…
Now that the rain has ceased, we are dealing with much cooler temperatures but they are still about 10° higher than average for this date. Unfortunately, there is more rain ahead. A flood warning is still in effect for all the rivers in our area until Saturday. The extended forecast for March is indicating above average temps for the whole month, and I hope that we won’t be paying for it in April. Our 9 AM temperature is 29°F (-1°C),…
To say that we are sick of rain is an understatement. We barely got a break from it yesterday except for a few 5 minute periods here and there. Our total since Monday night is 2.96 inches, 1.76 of that was yesterday alone. Everything near any waterways are flooded once again. We have water standing in our yard where there usually is none and walking across the lawn feels like a sponge. On the positive side, all of the snow…
Once again, we received much more precip than what was predicted. There was 1.20 inches in my gauge as of 8 AM this morning and moderate rain continues at this time. The rain began around 1:30 PM yesterday and increased in intensity as the day wore on. Dense fog developed with the rain. A flood watch was issued early in the day and continues through tomorrow. We have very little snow cover left, mainly where snow piles were. We could…
Temperatures as high as the 60s are in our forecast for this upcoming week, but with it comes heavy rain which has already produced flood watches in many areas. We still have about 3.8 inches of snow cover but that won’t last long with the rain that’s expected. This morning has been cloudy with a light mist but temps are on the rise and will continue to do so today. The rain should begin this afternoon, continuing through tomorrow and…
We rose this morning to a world of white but it didn’t last long. There was half an inch of new snow on the deck, but by the time we returned home from church, it was gone. Can’t say that I’m disappointed. Our extended forecast is calling for large amounts of rain heading our way on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. Projected amounts are for 3+ inches possible. That should take care of the remainder of the snow…
We have about 4.5 inches of snow cover as of this morning. Where we cleared the snow, it is down to bare ground. We have very warm temperatures in the forecast for mid week and that should rid us of the rest. I’ve had enough of snow for this season and especially slippery roads. At least when we get snow this late in the season, we know that it will be short-lived. This morning is cloudy and there is a…
