We lost a lot of snow with the warm temperatures that we have had the past two days. There is still about 5.5 inches of snow cover but it is continuing to melt with temps remaining above freezing. The next few days will be cold but then another warmup following that. Most of the ice is gone from the roads and my driveway, and I hope that it is gone for the remainder of the season. That’s probably asking too…
It is looking like a beautiful morning with temperatures that almost feel balmy. We still have about 10 inches of snow cover but that should diminish over the next few days. We did lose a little yesterday with the sun shining most of the day, and that will continue today and tomorrow with highs expected in the 40s. We now have about 14 inches of snow cover with the additional 4 inches that we received overnight . . . . and it’s still coming down. It seems like it will never end. The plow came down our road late yesterday, but now we have more to remove. The forecast is calling for an end around 4 pm and I’m hoping that it will be sooner. This is the most snow that we have had in about 5 years….
Although the big snow is over, we will continue to see a little more accumulations through tomorrow. It stopped snowing about 4 PM yesterday afternoon but we are having light flurries right now. We have about 2 inches of new snow so far and still coming down. Latest forecasts are still calling for another 3-5 inches for us. As of 8 AM this morning, we have 8 inches of snow cover so far. Winter storm watches and warnings are already in effect for southern portions of the state. Computer models seem to disagree as to how much we will actually get. It ranges anywhere from 3 to 10 inches, the heaviest affecting southern most Michigan. As luck would have it, I have to work Friday night. Our Tuesday morning is starting out with plenty of sun but frigid temperatures. We have snow in our forecast every day this week, and there seems to be no sure opinion of how much we will get. We had intermittent snow showers all day Sunday creating almost whiteout conditions at times. What’s worse is that we have several more systems coming later this week. We just can’t seem to keep the roads clear which is annoying for me. I can’t go anywhere until my husband clears the driveway and the road commission clears our road. With our present snow cover down to about 50%, that will change by tomorrow. There is another snow system that will bring 3-6 inches to our area.
