I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Much Cooler in Mid Michigan August 24, 2017

This morning feels like a day in mid September.  Our 8 AM temperature was only 50° and it is only 63°F now.  I don’t think that we will see 70° today.  I love the cooler weather, but this is too cool for mid August.  My hopes are that September will be warm and dry, at least until after our last camping trip. Our 11:15 AM temperature is 62°F (16°C), the humidity is 46%, and skies are mostly cloudy.  The dew…

Sunny But Much Cooler in Mid Michigan August 23, 2017

Sunny But Much Cooler in Mid Michigan August 23, 2017

Today was quite nice although it is far from cloudless.  Temperatures are abnormally cool, but that is nothing new for this summer.  Yo-Yo temps have been the rule since the beginning of the year, and it didn’t change for our summer months.  Although there is no rain in our forecast, some of the clouds look like they could drop a new sprinkles. but no rain so far. Our 6:30 PM temp is 73°F (22°C), the humidity is 46%, and winds…

Long Awaited Solar Eclipse Is History – Mid Michigan Aug. 22, 2017

Long Awaited Solar Eclipse Is History – Mid Michigan Aug. 22, 2017

Our Monday was quite nice early, and skies were mostly clear during the eclipse.  But afterwards, it clouded up and we now have light rain this morning.  Today shouldn’t be a complete wash-out with drier conditions expected later.  I did a blog late yesterday and I’m not finding it here.  Maybe I didn’t hit “Publish” . . . . I don’t know.    So far, we have received only 0.03 inches of precip as of 8:30, but rain has been falling…

A Sunny, Warm Sunday in Mid Michigan August 20, 2017

A Sunny, Warm Sunday in Mid Michigan August 20, 2017

Today was a wonderful day with temps in the mid 80s but low humidity.  I haven’t been feeling well so didn’t do much.  In fact, I was suppose to work today but didn’t go in.  That doesn’t happen very often.  The long-awaited eclipse is tomorrow but I will be working when it happens.  I’ll try to get a chance to get outdoors to get a glimpse.  I don’t really care to look at the sun, but I find the amount…

August 19, 2017 in Mid Michigan

Yesterday began with light showers, then became mostly sunny by sunset.  We only received 0.02″ of new rainfall, just enough to get the grass growing again.  Today will be mostly cloudy with a chance of more rain.  We are heading to the Detroit area this afternoon to spend a day with the kids, so I’m hoping that it isn’t too wet of a day. Our 8:45 AM temp is 64°F (17°C), the humidity is 85%, and winds are from the…

Cloudy and September-Like in Mid Michigan 8/18/17

Cloudy and September-Like in Mid Michigan 8/18/17

After a rather stormy Thursday here in Michigan, today is chilly and windy.  There were a few tornadoes spotted in the thumb area with some damage reported, but our weather here remained quite tame.  We had a few good downpours, but other than that, nothing even close to severe.  We received about 1/4 inch by the time the rain ended.  This has been a strange summer, weather-wise, and it will be interesting to see what September will be like.  Our…

A Sunny, Warm Day Before the Storms

A Sunny, Warm Day Before the Storms

We should enjoy today because we are being warned that tomorrow will probably be a stormy one.  Today, however, is beautiful and I’ll enjoy what is left of it.  I had to work so have been indoors until now. Our 4:30 PM temperature is 86.7°F, the humidity is 52%, and winds are from the SE at 6 mph.  The pressure is 30.02 in and the dewpoint is 63°F.   Skies are partly cloudy.  Yesterday’s high was 82°F and the overnight low…

8/14/17: Partly Cloudy and Mild in Mid Michigan

8/14/17: Partly Cloudy and Mild in Mid Michigan

We have a lovely morning with very mild temps and plenty of sun.  It should be a mostly dry day with the possibility of  rain later.  I love the cool temperatures that we’ve been having at night and it seems so good to turn off the AC and open the windows.  This has been a very rainy summer for us, but because of it, everyone’s gardens are doing great.  I haven’t had to water mine nearly as much as I…

Clear and Sunny in Mid Michigan

Clear and Sunny in Mid Michigan

What a beautiful morning that we have.  I’m glad that I’m not working today and will definitely get out on my bike.  This summer is passing so quickly that I don’t feel that I’ve done nearly the things that I planned on doing.  Soon  fall will be hear, and then the winter holidays again.  Such is life I guess, but I will certainly enjoy today and the great weather that we have. Our 9:30 AM temp is 63°F, the humidity…
