I have lived in Michigan all of my life and became very interested in the weather after the 1953 Flint tornado. This was one of the few EF5 tornadoes in our state's history (since records have been kept). Although we are not strangers to severe storms in Michigan, EF5 tornadoes are very rare. I live in an area where we rarely get a good thunderstorm, in fact, we haven't had one all summer. When I lived down by Detroit, they were frequent during the spring and summer months. I love experiencing the four seasons here in Michigan and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
A Cloudy, Mild Morning in Mid Michigan

A Cloudy, Mild Morning in Mid Michigan

Sunday was cloudy most of the day , and there were some heavy to moderate showers that passed by us but not a drop of rain here.  This morning is cloudy and it is dark in the west, so I’m expecting a bit of rain today.  Radar is showing light rain just to our north but we are dry so far.  Temps will remain a bit below normal but should warm up by week’s end. Our 9 AM temp is…

Below Temperatures Continue in Mid Michigan

Below Temperatures Continue in Mid Michigan

Yesterday wasn’t too bad although we had a brief shower in the afternoon.  Temps were cool and we did see a little sun late in the day.  Today will be much the same.  I’m loving these cooler temperatures and hope they remain through fall. Our 9:15 AM temp is 69.6°F (21°C) , the humidity is 60%, and skies are partly cloudy.  The pressure is 30.06 in (1017.7 mb) and steady.  The dew point is 58°F (14°C), and visibility is 10…

It Feels Like September on This August Morning – Mid Michigan

It Feels Like September on This August Morning – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was just plain chilly, especially after the wind picked up in the afternoon.  I didn’t even leave the windows open for very long as it got cold in the house.  We didn’t received much in terms of rain . . . . only 0.03″ in my gauge this morning.  It was mostly light sprinkles and mist which ended by late afternoon.  Today is beautiful although still chilly.  At least the high should reach the mid 70s. Right now (11…

Storms Came In Clusters on Thursday – Mid Michgian

Storms Came In Clusters on Thursday – Mid Michgian

Clusters of thunderstorms formed over most of the state all day yesterday, dumping large amounts of water in very short times.  We were fortunate that they waited until we got home.  Our first storm happened about 6 PM when we received 0.35″ in 15 minutes.  After that, we got occasional sprinkles but nothing heavy.  Overnight, another line of thunderstorms  came our way but only gave us another 0.10″  It died out shortly after passing us.  Many areas received over an…

Back In Mid Michigan Once Again

Back In Mid Michigan Once Again

I thought that today was supposed to be cooler but it is still very warm and sticky.  Showers and thunderstorms are popping up on radar and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some rain by day’s end.  The current radar is showing many little cells starting to develop to our south west, and they are moving in our direction.  The prediction is for our high tomorrow to only be in the  60s and for me, that will be a…

A Little Cooler in Northern Michigan But Still Very Muggy

A Little Cooler in Northern Michigan But Still Very Muggy

We had a few thundershowers pass just south of our location overnight getting everything wet.  We didn’t expect it and it appeared at bedtime that most would stay to our south, but we got a surprise.  It wasn’t very much rain, maybe about 1/10 of an inch, and the thunder was off in the distance.  Our morning was humid and cloudy, but the sun was trying to make itself known by noon.  This afternoon is mostly cloudy, and even though…

Rainfree So Far in Indian River Michigan

Rainfree So Far in Indian River Michigan

We have been very lucky so far with our weather, but rain is in the forecast for Thursday, the day we are leaving.  I hate packing up in the rain and I hope that it holds off until we leave.  Today will be nice although a little too warm for my liking.  We will be heading for the inlaw’s cabins for dinner tonight and it’s always much cooler down by the lake. Our 10:15 AM temp is 76°F, the humidity…

Monday Morning in Northern Michigan

Monday Morning in Northern Michigan

Here it is, the last day of July, and it seems like summer has just begun.  It’s hard to believe that some schools will be starting in a few weeks and we will start seeing the trees start to show color.  I’m not ready for it to end yet since it seems like summer just began.  The end to our stay here in Topinabee is about over and it is going much too fast also.  The weather has been exceptional…

Day #4 In Northern Michigan

Day #4 In Northern Michigan

This vacation is going by fast.  I can’t believe that it is half over already.  My daughter and oldest son are both here, and we went out last night to a popular pizza place in Indian River to celebrate my husband’s birthday.  My sister and bother-in-law met us there and we had a great time in spite of the fact that we had to wait over an hour to get a table.  Today is starting out with plenty of sun…

The Weather Couldn’t Be Better in Northern Michigan

The Weather Couldn’t Be Better in Northern Michigan

It’s looks like it will be another beautiful day with plenty of sun and comfortable temps.  It looks like this area will get a break from the persistent stormy weather that they have had recently, and it couldn’t have come at the better time for us.  Our campground is quite full and there is a lot of activity which I like.  My plan is to ride the rail trail today.  My daughter will be up later and pizza is on…
