Today is the beginning of a hot week. Temperatures will reach into the 90s by the week’s end. Today’s high should reach well into the 80s and we are still without AC. Although I was up in Traverse City yesterday, I heard about the storms which rolled through southern Michigan. One car dealership in Davison had every car on his lot damaged by baseball-sized hail. Other areas had wind damage although I haven’t heard the extent of it. My son was home and said that there were winds so strong that it blew my rain gauge sideways. Thunderstorms began early in Cheboygan and continued as we headed for Traverse City. The storm we drove through near Elmira, was a real gully washer, but by the time we reached TC, most of the rain was over. Skies cleared through the afternoon but severe storms pummeled our home turf. They were under a severe thunderstorm warning and the radar looked serious. We had a rare, loud thunderstorm about 2:30 this morning. It seemed good and we picked up another 0.4″ of rain. I just received a weather alert that air quality will not be good tomorrow. Yesterday was one of the stormiest days that we have had in a long time. The rain began in the afternoon and was light from the beginning; later, when the storms, which produced tornadoes in Chicago reached us, the sky really opened up. Yesterday brought us no rain, but there were isolated storm cells that formed over parts of the state. Several severe storm warnings were issued as well as one tornado warning.
