We are currently under a Winter Storm Warning, and the amount of snow that we can expect, depends on who you listen to. NOAA, who is usually quite conservative, is saying that we could get up to 10 inches, but most of the local weather gurus are saying 6-8 inches for my area. The heavy snow should reach us around 5 PM and continue into the overnight. Thankfully, it should be over by morning. Temperatures over the next week should…
We have another winter storm knocking on our door. At least this one is supposed to be snow, not ice. Estimated totals are six to eight inches for my area. At least most of the ice cover is gone thanks to the warm temps that we had yesterday. The Watch is from tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow night. Today will be another hard one for the southern states, as tornadoes will plague them once again. As for us, today’s weather should…
We should see our temperatures rise today enough to get rid of most of the ice on the ground. We lost quite a bit yesterday, and it was slushy enough to be plow-able. The grader went down the road and removed most of it. We still have about 70% ground cover. Highs today are expected to reach the upper 40s, so that should make a big difference. Our 11 AM temperature is 39°F (4°C), the humidity is 80%, and winds…
We had freezing rain yesterday morning which turned to all rain by the afternoon. Our temperature now has reached the 40s , and all the ice on the trees gone. We started the day with clouds, but it has cleared up this afternoon, and the sun is a welcome sight. We are starting to see patches of grass showing through the ice cover, and the yard no longer feels crunchy to walk on. Unfortunately, there is more winter mix on…
We have freezing rain at the present time, and it is supposed to change to all rain as the day goes on. Ice is building up rapidly on my trees and I hope that it warms up soon and stops freezing. Highs today are supposed to reach the mid 30s by this afternoon. We still have about 1-2 inches of ice on the ground from the last storm. Hey Mother Nature! Send us a few 50 degree days. Our 2:15…
Our temperatures made it into the low 40s and it feels a bit balmy today. We haven’t had any clouds and winds have been light. For a day in late February, it’s been very nice. Our ground is still white, but it isn’t snow . . . . . it’s ice, and not melting very fast. I estimate that it measures about 1-2 inches but am unable to get a accurate measurement. I’ll be glad when it warms up enough…
Our ground cover is about 2 inches of frozen whatever, and very little of it is snow. We did have a slight snow shower early this morning which left an additional half inch to the mix. It has now stopped and our forecast is calling for clearing later on. Our skies cleared late yesterday afternoon and we saw quite a bit of sun. It helped clear some of the ice on our deck, but it didn’t get warm enough to…
There are many who are still without power, and reinforcements are coming in from neighboring states to help with repairs . Local power companies estimate that most power should be restored by Sunday night. Our ground cover is white, but not with snow. It is all ice, mainly sleet, two inches of it. There won’t be any melting today since temps aren’t expected to rise above freezing. Right now, the sun is surprising us with a visit, but I don’t…
Looking at the power outage maps this morning, I feel very fortunate. My picture is from my son who lives near Detroit. So many without power this morning, but we aren’t one of them. Our lights blinked off for about 10 seconds, but then came back on. I feel blessed. Yes, we have two generators but they only power half the house and that’s better than nothing. Our ground is covered with 1.5″ of frozen slush. We had mostly sleet…
So far, we only have a light covering of snow, and there is nothing happening at this time. My area is right on the line between snow and ice, so we aren’t certain yet what to expect. Our generators are ready to go just in case, and the latest forecast doesn’t sound good. Regardless, we aren’t planning to go anywhere today as the local weather gurus are warning that travel late today will be impossible. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look now…
