Today may be the last of our warm fall days so we should take advantage of it and enjoy it. Highs in the 60s are expected today and tomorrow, but after that, it is expected to feel more like November. Usually by now, almost all the leaves are off the trees, but the maples are still hanging onto theirs. Today has been fairly nice with mild temps and light winds. The morning was a bit sunny but now more clouds have moved in. We are expecting a substantial warm-up over the weekend and into next week with highs reaching into the lower 60s. We had our first snow shower yesterday evening. It all melted on contact but I could see large, white flakes falling in my yard light. Most of the maples and oaks are holding on to their leaves, so hoping for no heavy snow amounts anytime soon. I can’t remember ever having leaves on the trees this late in the season. Our morning is starting out with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures are very chilly and northern Michigan got their first taste of measurable snow yesterday. Since so many of our trees still have leaves, I’m hoping that we won’t see any for a while. There is snow flurries in our forecast but that’s all for now. Today is Halloween and we finally have some decent weather for it. The past 4-5 Halloweens have been cold and rainy. We are finally seeing color on our trees after several very chilly nights. Yesterday was misty and gloomy all day. There was 0.03″ in my rain gauge and northern lights were supposed to be visible overnight. After two days of rain, it has finally stopped. Today is the big game between Michigan State and Univ. of Michigan and the weather should be dry in time for it. Our Sunday began with frost and fog. Visibility was less than half a mile until mid morning. Intermittent light showers yesterday gave us another 0.05″ of rain and temperatures haven’t made it out of the 40s yet today. The forecast is calling for highs in the low 50s. We received a little rain overnight leaving 0.05″ in my gauge. It was wet and damp first thing this morning, but the rain had stopped early. Since then, it has remained dry but temperatures are not rising very fast. Highs today will only reach near 50°F and that’s about 3 degrees warmer than yesterday.
