It’s Snowing In Mid Michigan

It’s Snowing In Mid Michigan

I got up to 1.5 inches of snow on the ground and it’s been snowing steadily since then.  I’m guessing that we now have 2+ inches.  The birds are having an eating frenzy this morning and I’m glad that I filled all my feeders yesterday.  Temperatures aren’t expected to warm up much with highs only expected to reach the low to mid 30s today.  At least it seems bright outdoors with the snow.  This is expected to last most of…

A Bright, Pleasant December Day In Mid Michigan

A Bright, Pleasant December Day In Mid Michigan

After all the wind yesterday, today is welcome even though our temperatures have dropped significantly.  In fact, they dropped from 62°F to 37°F in about 6 hours.  At least with temps back in the normal range, that should put an end to all of these storms that have plagued the country this past week.  Our sky has been cloudless all morning which makes for a lovely setting, but it is miserable driving with the sun so low in the sky. …

Quiet Before Another Wind Swept Day – Mid Michigan

Quiet Before Another Wind Swept Day – Mid Michigan

Yesterday was quite nice, but clouds moved in late in the day and showers developed overnight.  There was 0.19″ in my gauge this morning.  We are expecting another wind blown day tomorrow, but it isn’t supposed to be quite as bad as Saturday.  Regardless, it won’t be a nice day to be outdoors.   A white Christmas isn’t a probability at this time, but it’s Michigan, and we know how quickly that can change. Our 11 AM temperature is 48°F (9°C),…

A Pleasant December Day In Mid Michigan

A Pleasant December Day In Mid Michigan

Our morning began with plenty of sun and mild temperatures.  Since then, a thin layer of clouds have moved in but we still have filtered sunlight.  This weather is nice for those having to travel or go out Christmas shopping.  Unfortunately, a white Christmas doesn’t sound too probable but that’s okay.  Since my kids are coming from Detroit area, at least the roads should be good. Our 2:15 PM temperature is 48F (9C), the humidity is 62%, and winds are…

A Sunny, Pleasant Day For Mid Michigan

A Sunny, Pleasant Day For Mid Michigan

My sunset picture was from Saturday night, the day of the storms.  Stormy days seem to produce some of the most beautiful sunsets.  Although we received no severe weather here, the winds did a lot of damage to our state and many lost power.  We were lucky.  Unfortunately, Kentucky and Tennessee got the worst of it, along with several other states, but that’s the price that is paid for abnormally warm weather this time of year.  Thursday will be another…

High Wind Warning For All Of Michigan

High Wind Warning For All Of Michigan

Our morning started out quiet but now the wind is really howling.  My weather station is showing winds from 23-30 mph, but I know we are having gust stronger than that.  In fact, it blew my lawn swing over and I’ve never had that happen before.  So far, there have been no interruption in our power, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened before the day’s end.  We had overnight rain and I’m seeing a few lightning strikes on…

Quite Before The Storm – Mid Michigan

Quite Before The Storm – Mid Michigan

We are currently under a high wind watch beginning at 8AM tomorrow morning, until 8PM tomorrow evening.  You would never know it to be outdoors today.  Winds are light and we have clearing skies.  A local meteorologist said that this is close to being a “bomb cyclone” but not quite.  I guess that tells us that it’s going to be pretty windy.  My husband tested the generator to be sure it’s working if we need it.  So I guess we’re…

Another Inch Of Snow For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

Another Inch Of Snow For Our Wednesday – Mid Michigan

We woke to a white world this morning with about 1.5″ of new snow.  Highs today are expected to reach near the freezing mark, so I’m not expecting it to last long.  Also, we have a period of very warm weather coming next week with highs some days near 60°F.  But before that happens, our local meteorologist is predicting a storm on Saturday that comes close to being a “bomb cyclone”. https://www.mlive.com/weather/2021/12/storm-just-2-ticks-from-bomb-cyclone-over-michigan.html?fbclid=IwAR150QwnlZU9MK1u4v2pItrLFcNvvx7s2f6yfAgPFWvABSvgoYAPejP5lpI.  That certainly doesn’t sound good for our state. …

Snowy and Blustery In Mid Michigan

Snowy and Blustery In Mid Michigan

Today is not a nice one for having to be out and about.  We have very strong winds out of the west which makes it feel much colder than it is.  We had a mix of rain, snow, and sleet yesterday which turned into all rain by late afternoon.  There was only 0.12″ in my rain gauge this morning so we didn’t get nearly as much precip as most of the state did.  The UP was under a winter storm…

A Rather Nice December Day In Mid Michigan

A Rather Nice December Day In Mid Michigan

Today is quite pleasant although the wind is brisk and is chilly when it hits you.  At least we have a little sun shining through a thin veil of clouds.  There are predictions of a major snow event for the northern portions of our state tomorrow, but we are expected to just get mostly rain.  Some areas of our UP could get up to a foot of new snow.  Folks up there are heavy into winter sports, so I’m sure…
