Mid Michigan Weather

The rain began yesterday afternoon and intermittent heavy showers continued through the afternoon.  More steady rain developed overnight and there was 0.90″ in my gauge at 8AM.  It has been raining steadily since then.  I’m seeing on the CoCoRahs map that the Detroit area has received well over three inches in many places.  A flood watch is in effect until tomorrow morning.  Temperatures have cooled down considerably and highs today are expected to remain in the mid 50s. We are expecting very heavy rain over the next three days and a flood watch has been issued for most of southern lower Michigan.  We received a little rain so far but not enough to affect us.  Radar isn’t showing much as yet but my area is expecting up to three inches by Thursday.  The Detroit area is expecting up to six inches.  I wish this heavy rain would go west where the wildfires are.  They need it much more…

It’s time for cider mills and donuts once again.  This is my favorite time of year, especially when the weather has been like it has lately.  We continue to have summer-like temperatures and low humidity.  Conditions are dry and with these warm temps, I’m sure that the rest of my tomatoes will ripen.  We usually have to start bringing them indoors by this time to save them from frost.  I don’t think that will be an issue anytime soon.  Temps…

As we drove home from Indian River yesterday, we ran into some pretty impressive storm clouds.  We received a severe thunderstorm watch on the way, but didn’t see any of that.  I think that the southern portions of the state saw stronger storms than we did.  Sporadic rain showers was the best we had with little or no thunder.  Gusty winds were more of an issue.  There has been a lot of that this past summer.  In fact, I don’t…

Although skies became very dark, and a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for us, it never happened.  Unfortunately, other’s weren’t as lucky.  Ludington reported baseball size hail and another area near Bay City reported ping pong size hail.  There was a lot of wind damage in the Bay City area which the weather service said was caused by a micro burst.  There were a few tornado warnings issued throughout the state, but none formed.   That’s always a good thing.  Today…

Today has been gorgeous with mostly clear skies, a nice breeze, and comfortable temps.  This weather will continue overnight, but changes are coming tomorrow.  Forecasts are calling for strong thunderstorms and heavy rain late tomorrow until around midnight.  Severe weather is a real possibility.  We have large branches laying in our yard from the storms last Saturday when we got almost 2 inches of rain.  The extended forecast for September looks very nice with temps in the 80s much of…
